Everything I've read about Buck makes him seem like a pretty good guy, actually. And when he's not pontificating on STL, he's a good broadcaster.

Completely disagree. He's especially awful at football. This is the guy that got all outraged over Randy Moss pretending to moon the crowd. He completely messed up the call on the David Tyree catch.

Ugh, he's just bad.

Buck is awful. At everything. That said, it was fun watching cards fans fulminate when he declared the 2010 Giants to be the first team west of the Mississippi to win the World Series.

I love me some Arrieta but I'd definitely have preferred the quiet confidence approach. Nothing but motivation fodder for PIT.

this isn't football, it's not going to do them any good to get extra pumped up with a "nobody respects us" mentality.

Yeah, the Pirates were pretty apathetic about this game before Arrieta spoke up, I'm sure.

I was with you for a long time. Either it's Stockholm Syndrome (don't rule this out) or he's improved. I feel like he improved after that vocal-cord thing healed, but who knows.

The Moss thing was definitely stupid.

IIRC he doubled down on the Moss thing recently.

Not that I'll get any sympathy from this crowd, but when the Packers stopped the Steelers on 4th down to ice the SB all he and Aikman could do was casually discuss how they thought there should be PI and then after replays showed there was no contact they were basically like, "Oh. Good call..." No "And the Packers are going to be World Champs!" Or anything like that.

I actually hope that the Pirates are overly hyped for this game and ready to swing out of their shoes at the first pitch.

It's funny you should mention that because Harold Reynolds and Billy Ripkin thought that's exactly the approach they should take against Jake. Watching those two talk about baseball is about the most pointless thing ever.

That's not what they said. They simply were advocating attacking early before he gets up in the count and can throw whatever the hell he wants that you have no chance to hit. They're still idiots, but I don't think advocating attacking a guy like Jake early in the count is a terrible idea.

lol, its a distinction without a difference, and a terrible approach. I hope they do it, he'll have a 90 pitch shutout. He's going to throw whatever the hell he wants all night. Hacking away (i.e., attacking early) will get them nothing.

The only shot they have is to go up looking for a pitch in a particular location and hope they get it.

Love that they included Polanco falling down and going boom.

I do not get tired of watching that. I feel bad for him, but I laugh and laugh every time.
