This is a fun watch, especially thinking back to the comments from a few guys about wishing we were where the astros were back in maybe july when the offense was struggling.

the "ahead of schedule" narrative continues to slightly annoy me, but whatever. even i can't say i expected 95 wins this year. i did expect very good, though.

also, lol at that silly bald guy saying the cubs went out and improved themselves at the trade deadline (though i did like the post deadline trade for jackson)

He probably thinks we got Schwarber from the Rockies.

I was about to take issue with you being annoyed by the "ahead of schedule" narrative. With Schwarber in the majors, and Bryant breaking rookie records, and arrieta being otherworldly, it's hard to argue that they are better than expected.

Then I watched the video, and it was certainly overdone. In fact it was a little ridiculous. I'm now firmly with you. This is a great team now with a likely long window. That's the point, not whether it's a year early or two years early.

With Jake on the mound they are.

I so hope they get Price in the off-season. 1927 Yankees here we come.

At the end of that, they mention Castro turning around at the wrong time....linking to a Wittenmeyer article from June.

But a sloppy defensive tone set in the bottom of the first – triggered by a head-hanging, back-turning lapse by shortstop Starlin Castro – served just one more reminder of how far this young Cubs team is from being a factor in September, much less October.

lol at every kyle post in this thread

:-k

I went back and looked and I've only made like six posts in this thread and none of them seem lol worthy. I even stayed out of the RBI pluralization argument.

It isn't like this is the Arrieta trade thread.

thats what was making me laugh. Every post in here except for one was really positive and every other thread on the board has been you progressing from "well we're going to be bad later this year" to "well we're going to be bad in the future" to "well the future is no guarantee"

You are remembering the progression wrong. I've never once said we'd be bad this year or in the future. I've always been one of the more optimistic people about the Cubs in the immediate present.

i'm actually feeling better about the one game playoff coming up. pittsburgh is acting like they won the world series. they will certainly be riding high when we take them down.

And we're pitching Jake Arrieta and they're not.
