You know what I haven't heard in a while, which is great? The stupid [expletive] core 4 thing that Rogers, Sullivan or Muskat were trying to start/make a thing that they've had to abandon since everyone is so damn great. Somewhere I hope there's a warehouse filled with core 4 merchandise that those guys invested in and now can't sell.

WSI is going to lose their [expletive], aren't they

Why be confident in the Cubs?

Because we've spent 167 games focused solely on chasing the Pirates and Cards, and now that they are out of the way, we look up at the rest of the league and realize that the Cubs are the best team left.

Random playoffs are random of course I but all any team can do is give themselves a chance and make it the best chance possible with the best team.

Maybe I'm missing something, but with enough people here talking about WSI and the Gateway Redbirds board I checked them both out....and I was pretty disappointed. Sure, there's dumb stuff like calling the Cubs the "Flubbies" a few scattered meatballs, but most of the posts/posters on both seemed pretty reasonable and levelheaded and without much hyperbole outside of what we usually see here. I guess I was expecting these roiling cesspools of fury and rage given some of the comments. WSI especially surprised me; so many of the posters them seem REALLY critical of their team and how things have gone since 2005, to the point that some are apparently worried about the longshot chances of the team being moved or sold within the next decade or so. I didn't even know that was a thing to be worried about for them.

I agree, WSI really isn't that bad. There's some nutty posters, and even some of the good posters believe some nutty stuff (like someone insisting that the Rizzo trade was somehow dirty), but it wasn't that bad overall.

I do enjoy the sense of doom they seem to feel about the Cubs' success, though.

Yeah, there's definitely some weirdness; just having multiple threads and basically a forum about the Cubs is ridiculous, but I guess given that it just ramped up my expectations even more that they were going to be a bunch of lunatics. For the most part they just sound like any of my friends or family who are White Sox fans.

can you guys even imagine if this team is as good as it can be, it's possible the entire identity of the cubs changing? like 2 or 3 championships within a few years and suddenly we're one of those teams you identify as champions (like the bulls, patriots, giants - i won't say yankees or celtics...that's next level) as opposed to the complete futility we're known for?

it's literally reality changing. it's [expletive] crazy to even think about. and it's amazing. it needs to happen.

I want a Blackhawks-like run. 3 WS titles, always in the playoffs in a 10 year span... Yea I'd like that.

Ummm, yea. I think we realize that, and it's so nice to watch it unfold.

I don't "think" that. We're GOING to go on that type of run. And it's going to be [expletive] awesome enjoying it with you guys.

My personal pet peeve will be all the new Cubs fans and the ones who come back after sitting out these lean years.(not meaning newbies here, just in general fandom) For me, it's just like Theo said way back at the beginning-It'll mean more to us that stuck through the entire process. The days here where our minor league threads dwarfed our ML game threads. The constant rehashing of whether we took the right path or not.....Theres not a right or wrong answer in the end, but I have complete respect for those on the other side of where I was, because they stuck in as fans for the long haul. It's water under the bridge and #wearegood. Seriously, thank you [expletive].

After 99 games they were 5 over (52-47)

They went 45-18 the rest of the way (49-19 if you include the playoffs)

I don't know if this was posted, but it's a REALLY well done montage of the NLDS with some behind the scenes lockerroom stuff, on field cameras, etc. Chanting "Safety Squeeze!" Was pretty awesome after game 2. And theres a view of the Schwarber homerun that actually stays on him for awhile. No massive batflip as I hoped, but still awesome.

i can't believe bernie lincicome wrote this because i don't hate it

"Those sweet, cuddly little creatures who bring joy to shut-ins and children, Pooh and Paddington and Panda, treating their betters like pull toys, peeling away a century of scar tissue with wooden clubs that blast baseballs onto the perches of eagles, making the world wonder, whatever happened to Gentle Ben?"

Christ, that's awful.
