I MENTIONED THE CONTEXT AND WHY IT WAS COOL GIVEN THE CONTEXT FOR [expletive]'S SAKE

D.A.V.I.D. ERROR REPORTING SYSTEM

should we have opted for the watercooling upgrade?

People are so afraid to sound like a meatball when RBIs are brought up and have to prove how little they care about it. Like yeah, it's 2015 and pretty much everyone understands how to value the stat. When Bryant gets to 100 as a rookie, for example, it's OK to say it's neat without prefacing it with how stupid RBIs are.

Sorry I derailed it. It is, in fact, neat.

While we're airing grievances, I also dislike "RBIs" vs "RBI."

RsBI

This may be the worst thing ever. I don't care if it's minutely more accurate, it's just stupid.

Is it even more accurate?

not really sure where to put this, and not really worthy of a new thread... but Big Z's no hitter was 7 years ago today.

I'm firmly in the RBIs camp, when we are discussing the plural form of RBI. In fact, RsBI and RBI, when used as the plural form, make me rage. When you initialize that phrase, it becomes its own thing. We are no longer talking about the plural of "run batted in"; we are talking about the plural of "RBI." People have no problem referring to WMDs, POWs, AGs, et. al. Why do we have a problem with this plural initialism and not any others?

RBI stands for "Runs Batted In", it can't be much simpler than that. It's already the plural form.

One Runs batted in?

From the Chicago Manual of Style website:

Q. My question refers to the plural use of acronyms and initialisms. As I have always understood it, the acronym or initialism can be pluralized only if the last letter indicates the plural item. So MOU (memorandum/memoranda of understanding) cannot become MOUs, but ICT can become ICTs (information and communication technologies). I run into this problem a lot with the initialism RFP (request for proposals), which people like to pluralize as RFPs to indicate multiple requests. The word proposals is already plural, so it does not make sense to me to add an s to the end of the initialism. What is the correct way to make acronyms or initialisms plural?

A. If you can stop thinking of the spelled-out meaning of the acronym and just treat the acronym itself as a word with its own meaning, you should be able to add that little s without fretting.

so...both are acceptable usage.

I saw a grammatically incorrect but awesome shirt at Wrigley during the DBacks series. It was a Schwarber shirsey in the style of the road unis that say "CUBS," but instead of "CUBS" on the front it said "ROYS." Wish I could find one online.
