We're adrift in the Sea of Lost QBs if we keep him, too, at this point.

I dont know how this position can be defensed.

Yeah, I don't agree with that either. Our best bet is to stick with Cutler and hope to get lucky before he leaves, or restock the rest of the team to compensate for QB mediocrity.

Conclusion: There is genuine disbelief inside #Bears' locker room that Cutler got benched & Aaron Kromer only received slap on the wrist.

Dickerson is a notorious Cutler basher, so this tells you so much when he's reporting that Cutler's benching has caused a seeming uproar in the locker room.

But there are several conflicting reports between Dickerson, Mike Silver, the Krapman, etc.

Yeah, Dickerson couldn't hide his joy yesterday.

I mean Russell played like a legit top 10 QB his first two years. He's down a bit this year, but if he rebounds next year he'll be worth whatever he gets. Now obviously cheaper is always better but that's true anywhere. It's the NFL, only really good drafting teams or really irresponsible teams end up on cap crunches.

To take a similar example, Big Ben was a rookie QB with a good team (SB his rookie year) who wasn't as good as Wilson during his rookie deal, nor as cheap (being a first rounder). He signed a big extension in 2008 and they followed it up with 3 out of the next 4 seasons at 12 wins, two conference champs and one SB win. They were just simply one of the best drafting teams during that span. Bens franchise deal didn't harm them or look any less brilliant. The past few years when Bens deal turned into a value contract, they were a middling 500 team.

As down as Cutler is I think with the right OC he can be what he was last year most years and even sneak in a top 10 season. And soon enough that's basically what his pay rate will be.

That probably is our best bet, but it doesn't mean it's not a sucky bet.

He's not the same QB he was when he was 29 or whatever.

He's closer to McCown which is what all the meatballs want anyways, let's go for it.

I think his body's shot from taking a billion hits and being diabetic and it's only downhill from here.

Seahawks are getting cheap production across the board. Their crunch when it comes will be more than Wilson. So it's more about drafting well across the board. Only is brilliant if you get the incredibly rare third rounder that can produce like Wilson right out of the gate.

The crunch is coming with the new deals for Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett and Marshawn Lynch likely leaving.

Why didn't Trestman announce the change during his P.C? Unless the call to bench Cutler came straight from the top??

To avoid answering questions about it. Plus, you don't announce changes at PC, you announce it to the team and have a press conference to discuss it after the players know. Once the players know, the media knows anyway.

I don't know...there are so many unanswered questions about this team, particularly the last 2 weeks. I wish someone could get to the bottom of everything and write a book someday.

Trestman is in over his head and has a bad coaching staff and all those guys are looking to cover their asses and shift blame.

Not much more than that.

Seems like at this point the FO should be stepping in. I guess Emery is trying to distance himself from any decision as part of the blame shifting, but realistically that is worse than getting involved and trying to restore a little bit of control these last two weeks.

A book is a little optimistic. I'd think it can be covered in a Grantland article. Whoever wrote that GM of the future article at the beginning of the season should do a follow up.

Right, he should have told the team and then mentioned it to the press.

He absolutely should have already stepped in but the thing about Emery is he seems very much married to the structure of the organization and chain of command. The guy wants to run things like the military (his longest professional stint was with Navy) and I am guessing he views this as Trestman's decision/mistake to make. There is no 2014 season to save and stepping in at this point would go against the structure he implemented.

He's 31. And every indication that he's aggressively managing his blood sugar levels. Unless you can provide a source for that I'm taking it as wild speculation.
