This is an absolutely astonishing collapse.

Early on in the season I kept thinking they'd pull together a string of offensive competence, even if the D still sucked.

Honestly, it's not even benching Jay but if you are gonna do it, at least play Fales to find out what you have there. This is maybe why it's best to dump a coach midseason. Trestman know he has nothing to lose at this point and no reason to be loyal and look towards next year.

Non Bears fan asking the question.... but with Cutler's salary guaranteed for next year, I don't understand this play. Cutting Cutler would be a salary gap disaster, so does this mean they trade him? Is this just a move for the end of the year? Why?

This is more baffling than the Redskins and the RG3 snafu.

Im guessing with the recent [expletive], Cutler asked out to some extent. Or could be Trestman trying to save his job by showing another QB can get it snd push the blame to Jay (would have Clausen and McCown as evidence).

I'm fairly certain this is trestman saying WTF do I have to lose? If he wins a game with jimmy he can blame it all on cutler and enough idiots would buy it to potentially make a difference.

This is also why trestman needed to be fired earlier. Letting a lame duck make meaningful decisions is stupid, but also status quo for this organization.

Should have fired Trestman and Kromer. Made Pasquonoli HC and Cavanaugh OC.

Benching Cutler at this point is dumb, unless they are worried that the OL is so bad they don't want him to get hurt in meaningless games.

I mean I definitely had thoughts about wanting them to IR Garza with dementia and going with Groy and Leno, but I didn't want Cutler killed. Now I definitely want Claussen killed. Groy to C, Leno LT, Ola LG. Bushrod and Garza to the IR of old age.

Perhaps for his next gig.

Clausen 1-15 as a starter with a 58 QB rating. LMAO

No stats are necessary; just post pictures:

I've never seen a second of this idiot playing that I can recall and I find it incredibly easy to hate him with the power of a thousand suns.

When he makes Jimmy a 60 QB passer he's gonna get all the best offers from bottom dweller NFL teams to run their offense. No crawling back to CFL with his tail between his legs!

Kind of sickening to see a select few celebrating this including Kap on TV. Only bad comes out of this.

-Clausen does well and Trestman keeps his job

-Cutler loses all trade value he had before

-Who is the QB next year now? Back to same old, same old.

Trestman is already done. How do you feel about Jake Locker? Mike Glennon? Ryan Fitzpatrick?

Could the bears just say they don't want cutler to play in meaningless games so they are seeing what they have in Claussen? I could see the bears spinning this so that it doesn't look like they are giving up on Cutler. Or obviously if they let Trestman and maybe Emery go they can say they didn't support benching him.

I think it would be a bad idea to just cut cutler after the season. Doesn't help us at all next season unless they are just going to punt it and go through a rebuilding year.

If you're gonna cut Cutler just sit him. It'd be better on the cap.

If there's a QB to get an extended look at its Fales.

@TheTweetOfGod

Oh, you're going to pout.

You're going to cry.

You'd better not watch.

I'm telling you why:

Jimmy Clausen's going to start.

@KarliBell33: Great point by @MikeSilver. Maybe #Bears want to point out it is a QB problem & not a coaching problem. Very interesting.

I doubt this

I want Bradford at this point. I trust him to be healthy and good next year and in the foreseeable future more than any other potential FA QB or any non Heisman winning QB inm this draft.
