I certainly wouldn't be shocked with a 12 loss season.

Uncertain o line. Rookie WR plus replacing a pro bowl caliber guy. Aging RB. Disinterested TE. Inconsistent QB.

Terrible defense.

It should be capable or 8-8, but Fox is no brilliant tactician and trestman/emery did a lot of harm.

Probably not really all that newsworthy, but the Bears signed Daniel Thomas (RB) and Sherrod Martin (S). 2 positions that definitely need depth, but probably nothing that will help the team all that much.

I really liked Sherrod Martin coming out in the draft, but he's been below mediocre in his career. Thomas is a short yardage back who fumbles. If he shows ball security, he could make the team over Jacquizz Rodgers, as a change of pace, pass catching back isn't really a need.

I really think they need to find an OL and a DL help. Unless Kyle Long is all-in at one of the tackle spots, you still are looking at Mills and Ola/Leno competing for RT. And they still haven't replaced McDonald, who was projected as a starter on a pretty weak area of the team. The Bears still have about 8.2Mil in cap space from what I read. Red Bryant is still out there and is a great run defender for the base D. Jake Long, Evan Mathis, and John Moffitt are available on the OL. The latter two are potential starting caliber guards if Kyle Long moves permanently outside, though Moffitt has been out of the league about 18 months due to drug addiction, I don't know if that's something the Bears want to do right now.

I think the "not brilliant" part makes it less likely the Bears lose 12. Trestman thought he could throw Cutler out of a slump. Fox will run the ball endlessly with a number of backs to get the job done. And the Broncos offense the last year was basically a bunch of WR screens a rub routes because Peyton can't throw anymore. Fox is more likely to dumb things down when they are struggling. And that seems like it will help a less talented team be competitive.

i don't think fox has a ton to do with anything as far as tactically.

this'll be fangio's defense with some input from fox and gase's offense.

i think i'm still drunk so if that doesn't make sense i blame that

Yeah, but Fox is definitely a guy that will dictate what he wants those guys to do (at least offensively). I think he and Gase will have a set gameplan and you won't ever see 6 rushing attempts in a game.

I'm not sure running more and dumbing it down will equate to more wins this season. They have a questionable line and limited talent in defense.

True. But I (probably mistakenly) give them a couple more wins (Minnesota, Buffalo) if Trestman didn't stubbornly throw the ball down the field consistently with a struggling QB twice as much as he ran the ball.

Cutler and members of the Bears' offense recently met up in Nashville so that they could all work together prior to the start of training camp. Except, it certainly looks like Jeffery decided to skip the workouts and trained with Marshall -- now a member of the Jets -- instead.

Fine by me. If Jeffery wants to keep doing the thing that's helped turn him into a Pro Bowl caliber WR the past two seasons, then by all means. He seems like a pretty chill dude... not really a grudge-holding, disrupting type like Marshall. He'll show up at camp and be fine.

Look, I'm not absolving Cutler from all responsibility from everything that's happened since he came to the Bears, but boy has the guy had just a clown show of coaches.

I guarantee you that 99.9% of football coaches will read what Kromer did and defend him while decrying the pussificaiton of America.

Funny that Mike Martz was the only non-disaster as a coach he's had. Head or OC. Hell, the DCs have been jokes most of the time too. From incompetent (Tucker) to Babich just there for show, the Bears as an organization has been terrible since the Cutler trade.

Lovie was far from a disaster. But, yes, everyone else has been a joke.

lovie and marinelli were both good in their roles.

Forgot about Marinelli for some reason. And in the first part, I meant offensive coaches. Wasn't clear at all. Lovie was definitely not a disaster.

Would it be wrong to say this is the least enthusiasm there's been about the Bears since heading into the 2004 season? 2003 if you think people were excited about Lovie + the flashes Rex showed at the end of 03?

Going into 2008 might come close, but they were still one season removed from a Super Bowl.

That's not to say I think they're going to be as bad as everyone does this year. Hell, I think 9-7 or 10-6 are possible because NFL. Schedule is brutal though.

2013 was scary because of the overhang of Trestman being a potential dud, but there was probably more excitement. I think this is the least amount of excitement for me since pre-Lovie. I was a huge proponent of them bringing in Lovie.
