Ray McDonald is a complete piece of [expletive] -- but the outrage over the signing is inconsistent with what occurs in the NFL every season. He was accused of assault, not charged, and then when he was charged, they released him. It was a low-risk (no guaranteed $), high-reward move. It blew up and they cut him.

Just about every NFL team has employed athletes who have been accused of (or charged with) serious crimes. Assault/battery (domestic and otherwise), DUI, reckless endangerment, gun charges... guys accused of and/or charged with these are still in the league -- even when the crimes or accusations are felonious. It sucks to feel like you have to cheer for horrible human being who plays on your team, but that dilemma is just a part of the NFL and the rest of pro sports.

I understand this thinking and generally agree - (though there's certainly severity levels of character issues), but the Bears really tried to prop up the McDonald signing, to the point that they basically partook in victim shaming at the time of the signing (Per the tweet above) to justify the signing. That makes them look way worse than if they just took a chance on a guy with a checkered past.

The Entourage creator/director does not like Jay Cutler

http://www.gq.com/entertainment/movies-and-tv/201506/entourage-movie-returns

Piven, wearing fancy glasses and a suede fedora, loosens up and talks about the apartment he has in London: "I usually rent a flat, as they call it." As plates of decadent food are shuttled to and from the table, we cover a lot of strong guy-conversation topics, like Jay Cutler ("I don't like him," says Ellin. "I don't think he's got heart")

It's hilarious how they're not even trying to pretend that the "stakes" of the movie aren't exactly the same as the stupid, stupid TV show.

"OH MY GOD, IF VINCE'S MOVIE BOMBS HE'S TOTALLY DONE, BRO."

Wonder has he ever met Cutler. Guessing not, just like all the other people who write [expletive] based on looking at someone's body language. It's funny because the majority of Cutler's teammates have said he's a great teammate, a leader, etc. but some kicker said something one time and a reporter didn't like the way he looked during a loss and he's permanently a heartless guy who doesn't care if his team wins or loses.

It would be hilarious if the movie was seriously a giant mocking parody of the show. Weird example but kind of like how those 90's Brady Bunch moves basically made fun of the show and its characters.

So I actually watched the entire series and while not the pinnacle of good TV, I generally enjoyed it. I am watching the trailer and a quote pops up saying something about 'you dont need to see the show to enjoy' and I am trying to imagine someone who has never seen Entourage or understand anything about Entourage seeing the trailers and thinking 'you know I missed the show but this looks like a great movie, I have to see it!' There is no discernable plot, or at least an interesting one that a non-fan would get hooked, and the trailers are basically a bunch of celebrity cameos. (yes I realize that basically sums up the show but at least we knew the characters backstories and they were familiar to us)

OK back to more discussion about how stupid the Bears are.

I feel like you should be sitting in the back of an ambulance right now, wrapped up in a blanket while someone brings you hot coffee.

It's going to be OK.

I have never watched an episode of Entourage, but sometimes I feel like I ought to so I can join in the internet hate.

So the Bears hired a new head contract negotiator with New Orleans ties. Stein will keep his role as General Counsel only.

I'm a little surprised, but I guess in FO overhauls even non-talent evaluator roles aren't safe. Stein has gathered a great reputation, with the Bears never really feeling cap crunches. New Orleans has been aggressive with the cap, willing to kick the can down the road in favor of flexibility. It's finally actually caught up with them, but they obviously benefited a lot by being aggressive with the cap for many years.

Will be interesting if that's how Pace ends up operating.

This is excellent news. I didn't think Young especially would be ready for the preseason, but it seems like they will be.

I find the Young week-to-week hard to believe, but great news if so.

HOO HOO HOO HOOSIERS! Good pick up if he can stay healthy and still can play. He missed 13 games last year and 10 in 2012. But played in all 16 in 2013, though he didn't play very well IIRC. Of course, he played for the Raiders, so..... I think he's insurance in the nickel spot.

Apparently, he was 105th out of 110 CBs according to PFF in 2013.
