After sleeping on it, I think the big question is how the FO perceives Bryant's defense at 3B. If there isn't confidence there, they should nab Headley next. If they think he can man 3B for a few years, then go for the outfielder. Fairly obvious stuff, but I'd love to know what they really think there.

If anything, wouldn't we see that more in Russell, Baez, or Castro as far as options at 3rd if they have concerns about Bryant long-term?

I hope they test the waters on Matt Joyce (obviously doesn't seem like they'd answer the phone) as well as Michael Bourn (Jackson and a prospect with cash).

Bourn

Castro

Rizzo

Soler

Joyce

Bryant/Valbuena

Valbuena/Baez

Montero/Castillo

Hopefully have enough money for McCarthy and call it a day. :D

Time for that follow up move, Theo & Jed. If now is the time, let's do this thing right.

I believe in them. They're not paying $26m or whatever to Lester just to win 82 games next year. Switch flipped.

I can't wait to see the follow ups.

I want:

- another top flight starter added. Pitchers are brittle things. It's good to have a quantity of quality arms. If he's posted, make it Maeda.

- an all-star level OF or 3B. I'd prefer someone who hits left handed, but I really just want someone that hits well.

- Jaxon traded for Crawford. Make everyone earn that playing time. Maddon is great at balancing that out and shifting people to keep them happy and put into positions to succeed.

- Destroy the IFA cap. Might be the last chance to do this right.

- Yoan Moncada. Promise him enough to wait until July. I want all the nice things.

That's a lot of pretty, shiny objects. Would be an all-time offseason. The Yankees have never even done anything like that.

I'm all about signing McCarthy if they can get him on a contract similar to hammels. All in on Crawford as well if they'll take ejax. The Harper stuff is surely a pipe dream, but if I had my choice of outfield bats that are realistic you have to go with upton I think.

He's not at the top of my list, but may be easiest to get player/prospect wise. Would something like Castillo, Wood and a not huge prospect (Szczur, Watkins type) be enough for Kemp with LAD eating 1/2-2/3 of his contract?

Friedman is probably the biggest pitch framing fanatic in the game. He's been trotting out the zombie corpse of Jose Molina for the last 3 years in Tampa. I doubt he values Welly very highly.

My biggest issue with Kemp and Upton is the conundrum you face if you decide Bryant can't handle third base. As much as Kemp may like to think so, he really cannot do CF anymore. He's rated a -35 and -33.5 in UZR/150 the past two seasons out there. I think you can only trade for Kemp or Upton if you are really confident in Bryant's ability to be at the hot corner for at least a few years.

Does it matter that Kemp's been playing in enormous parks out west and half his games in Wrigley might help that a bit?

It couldn't hurt. But that's a lot of ground to make up to be merely bad in CF.

The Sox had a period of 4-5 years where it was common knowledge that the Cubs were going to suck and be irrelevant and had 2 of their worst seasons in recent memory the last 2 years. In fact they finished with a worse record than the Cubs in 2013 and the same record in 2014. You'd think if that was the case the Sox would have seen the opportunity to gain ground in Chicago and do whatever it took to win.

I dunno I'm not saying they completely ignore what the Cubs are doing but I don't think it's a driving factor in their major decisions.

Definitely not. The White Sox spend a great deal of their resources trying to get fans to come to the games.

That's not meant to be an insult either. We don't exactly sell out when the Cubs or bad. Some would argue nor should we.

Welcome to the forum, glad to see some

new faces in here. What do your sources say about Lesters decision btw?

Hey, thanks man! My sources said he was going to retire and that he wasn't going to the Marlins.

Billy's trading away half his roster-The package if Zimmermann/Harper brought up in the Lester thread makes me wonder if Reddick/Gray isn't realistic to be hoping for?

Of course Bowden just mentions that Russell and Edwards could be enough to get Kemp. Screw that.

I'm sure Russell and Edwards is enough to get Kemp.

Could be? Cubs should add Rizzo just to make sure they get Kemp.

There is no [expletive] way he said that. How in the hell is he employed anywhere around baseball?

Jim Bowden

I don't think Cubs would want Ethier......Kemp would be final piece for Cubs becoming legit Wild Card team right now.....hmmmm.......maybe Russell & Edwards?

The whole ESPN live chatthing is horrible. Of course I am eating it up today and getting no work done.

Shark sounds a little jaded about the Cubs (brought up he will remember things that were said to him and made it almost seem as if the Cubs may have lied or been telling him things they didn't intend to do).

I say screw him. He looks like a Sox player with that stupid mullet anyways.

He is on Espn1000 right now with Jurko & Carmen.
