CarGo's splits are EXTREME. Does anyone care?

Yes, but I'd me more concerned that he's a DL warmer. Colorado's owner loves him, so the cost would be high. Pass.

For $53mil the next 3 years, I'd pass too.

Start talking to NYY about Gardner for Castro.

They won't be doing that

Time for that follow up move, Theo & Jed. If now is the time, let's do this thing right.

I'm more curious about who that bat could be. It can't be a C or 1B, almost certainly can't be a SS, and I don't see a 2B that really fits(unless you want to pigeonhole Zobrist as one). Upton(dicey), Span, Cargo, Headley, Zobrist, who else?

EDIT: Crawford and Ethier probably qualify too.

I believe in them. They're not paying $26m or whatever to Lester just to win 82 games next year. Switch flipped.

I can't wait to see the follow ups.

I want:

- another top flight starter added. Pitchers are brittle things. It's good to have a quantity of quality arms. If he's posted, make it Maeda.

- an all-star level OF or 3B. I'd prefer someone who hits left handed, but I really just want someone that hits well.

- Jaxon traded for Crawford. Make everyone earn that playing time. Maddon is great at balancing that out and shifting people to keep them happy and put into positions to succeed.

- Destroy the IFA cap. Might be the last chance to do this right.

- Yoan Moncada. Promise him enough to wait until July. I want all the nice things.

You won't like it, but it could mean trading for Crawford. It could mean someone like Morse. Or it could be an actual big-time move, like CarGo or Upton. Maybe make one more trip to the well and see if Beane will continue the fire sale, or even Jay Bruce.

Adrian Beltre?

I like Crawford quite a bit actually, especially if they think he can fake it in CF in the short term.

Crawford - in CF? That would be an empathic "no".

He's a plus defensive LF on the back of great range, I don't think he'd be humiliating himself there. That said, I wouldn't acquire him for the express purpose of playing CF, but having that as a contingency if Alcantara fails or Bryant plays his way off 3B would be very nice.

Crawford hasn't played an inning in CF in 6 years and at this point he's below average even in left. He's in no way a CF option - if they trade for him, it's to play LF.
Posted
He's been +12 and +7 in LF the last 2 years, and he continues to have excellent range, which is the biggest impediment in a LF to CF move. Again, I'm not saying you pencil him in as a CF for 3 years, but I don't see a compelling reason he can't be an option there depending on how other circumstances conspire.

Refining my wish list:

2 more bats. There are too many young guys to count upon for success in 2015. Learning curves are steep for guys with the red flags of Baez, Bryant and Alcantara. Plus that still leaves us with either Valbuena or Coghlan/Ruggiano filling full time roles. I'd like to get one all-star worthy bat at one of those positions and then take on an expensive OF in trade for Jaxon. One guy has to be capable of CF.

The all-star bat could be Headley, CarGo, Kemp or Justin Upton (if he'll waive the NT). Headley takes nothing but cash, but fills the position where we have the most options. Signing him certainly pushes Bryant to the OF and most likely signals a trade of either Castro or Baez at some point. CarGo would be ideal, if healthy. He is capable of LF or CF and can hit anywhere in the lineup. Kemp might be the easiest to acquire of the OF's. Upton is not likely to happen (but his brother might be).

The expensive OF in a Jaxon trade comes down to two guys - Crawford and BJ Upton. Interestingly, both have had their best success under Maddon. Both provide depth and flexibility and should be reasonably straightforward to acquire as salary trades.

1 more starter. I just don't trust that we'll get two quality starters from Hendricks / Wada / Wood / Turner / Doubront / Straily. I want to believe. But I'd be a lot happier with a more sure thing.

This could be done as a signing if the budget is there after the bats (and the bats should be the priority). Maeda would be my first choice.

This could also be done as a trade. Baez would be the piece to dangle here since they've already said they're not moving Castro. Harvey and Ross are my favorite targets, but there are others out there, too. This makes most sense in combination with a Headley signing. If we go after the big bat in trade, we may have to move Baez in that trade. If we sign Headley, that leaves him available to use in a trade for pitching. Given Russell knocking on the door next year, if Headley is at 3B we'll have to move somebody. La Stella or Valbuena can keep 2B warm until he arrives.

It'll be fun to see what actually happens and where the budget ends up, though.

With age and injuries slowing him down, I certainly don't think you'd want to depend on CarGo to play CF apart from a dire emergency.

In-Lester's C, old vet bat, big bat, SP, LHRP

Out-Valbuena, Castillo, Wood, Jaxon, Ruggiano

That's my guess at what's left on the agenda, now that Lester is here.
