Theo just said they aren't shopping Castillo, for what that's worth. Called Montero a perfect complement to him.

Please be true.

I would feel infinitely better about the trade if true.

Now I kinda want CarGo and pray he stays healthy. Maybe Colorado will remember those Baez home runs from his call up and not ask for much more than him.

The Sox remind me a bit of some of the Hendry era teams. You can absolutely see a path to them competing, they have some stars and a few solid role players and a few more that could definitely step into role playerdom(Garcia, Rodon, Davidson, maybe Flowers?). The problem is that's not all that likely and they have very little margin for error since 1) Most of their player value is in pitchers and seriously, screw pitchers and 2) they have zero internal reinforcements coming to trade for help or otherwise boost the MLB team. It's why I'm especially confused that they made the moves they've made. They haven't exactly mortgaged the future, but I don't get guys like LaRoche who are very much 2015 moves with diminishing returns when they stand so little chance of making that leap.

I really believe that some of what the White Sox do is to countered the Cubs, even if in the long-term it's not necessarily beneficial for the organization. The need to stay relevant in the Chicago media, they need to stay relevant with their fans. And that's why I think the Sox will never consider tearing things down and starting over. They can't do that or they'll lose the fan base and the city. And it's not just on-field personnel moves the club makes. I think hiring Ventura was purely to resonate with the fan base, get 'em excited, get 'em to come out to park. Even though Ventura never coached before and hasn't been exactly stellar during his stint.

Another example is the club's whole marketing approach to last season. Knowing the Cubs' farm system was loaded and highly thought of nationally, the White Sox created this whole "look at our kids/look at our youngsters" rally point. Hawk would constantly tout it on air, and there were plenty of commercials (radio and TV) saying the exact same thing. But who exactly were their youngsters outside of a couple of pitchers??? There 27 year old Cuban rookie?? Or the 27 year old C or 3rd baseman?? The 33 (yeah, right) year old SS ?? Maybe it's the below average Left Fielder or unproven Right Fielder?? Paulie?? Again, who are all these youngsters they're promoting. Phegley sucked. Semien sucked. Davidson sucked. Most of the young pitchers not named Sale and Quintana have sucked. And they really had nobody ion the minors making much noise save Rodon.

I firmly believe much of what the White Sox do is to counter the Cubs. And when the Cubs suck (which is often) things are easy. But when the Cubs have things going, the Sox need to counter, try to grab the spotlight....even at the expense of the organization sometimes.

The Sox had a period of 4-5 years where it was common knowledge that the Cubs were going to suck and be irrelevant and had 2 of their worst seasons in recent memory the last 2 years. In fact they finished with a worse record than the Cubs in 2013 and the same record in 2014. You'd think if that was the case the Sox would have seen the opportunity to gain ground in Chicago and do whatever it took to win.

I dunno I'm not saying they completely ignore what the Cubs are doing but I don't think it's a driving factor in their major decisions.

Definitely not. The White Sox spend a great deal of their resources trying to get fans to come to the games.

That's not meant to be an insult either. We don't exactly sell out when the Cubs or bad. Some would argue nor should we.

So let's assume we get Lester for a minute.

C: Montero / Castillo

1B: Rizzo

2B: Baez / Valbuena / LaStella

3B: Bryant / Valbuena / LaStella

SS: Castro

OF: Soler / Alcantara / Bryant / Coghlan / Sweeney / Ruggiano / Lake

others on 40 man: Szczur / Olt / Villanueva / Lopez

SP: Lester

SP: Arrieta

SP: Hammel

SP: Hendricks

SP: Wood

SP: Jackson

SW: Wada

SW: Doubront

SW: Turner

SW: Straily

RP: Rondon

RP: Strop

RP: Ramirez

RP: Grimm

RP: Parker / Schlitter / Jokisch / Rosscup

Others on 40 man: Ortiz / Roach / Beeler / Edwards

We could really use one more good bat at OF or 3B and I'd like one more starter. Jaxon needs to find a new home. Wood may need one (definitely does if we get one more SP). We'll only want one of Coghlan / Sweeney / Ruggiano / Lake. We'll have to break the log jam in the swing role. We may want another lefty specialist.

I'm still blown away by Wright being non-tendered.

Welcome to the forum, glad to see some

new faces in here. What do your sources say about Lesters decision btw?

I don't think they need another SP

I'd love to trade Coghlan and get a more well rounded LH 4th OF

Adding a LHRP would be nice

I don't think they need one. I'd just be more comfortable with one.

God, it would be really nice if we did not sign Edwin Jackson to a ridiculous contract for no reason. That's the one move that really never made sense.

No reason? They needed the pitching.

They were trying to win baseball games and thought he might help. They were wrong.

I think Wada ends up as the 5th starter, Wood shipped off somewhere or the swingman. IF we sign Lester, of course.

I love the idea of the FO ramping it up for 2015 if they get Lester, but rather than target another SP a big bat for the OF would be the far more crucial need, IMO. With all the baggage he carries, I still think CarGo might be the best realistic fit.

I like the lineup construction with CarGo over Kemp/Upton. He helps to bring some L/R balance and more speed to the lineup.

The question with CarGo is how serious the Rocks are about dealing him (owner loves him) and how much of a discount you get based on injury history and exaggerated (with one exception) home/away splits. I wouldn't give away core pieces for him, but if you could get him for the likes of Almora I'd certainly do it.
