History has shown that Stan will go out and get a defenseman when he needs to with decent results. Campoli was decent until he coughed up the turnover that led to the OT winner against Van. Oduya was an integral part of the 2013 run. I think we'll see Erixon to IR or waived before the deadline. Cuminsky lasts until TVR returns unless they need to add his salary to equation.

All this means that the Hawks could now get a D man currently making ~$3 million provided that the other team is willing to pay half (which is the max) of the remaining cap hit. Without capgeek it's hard to know for sure but I think those figures come out under the cap.

Good thing they couldn't figure this out before the season when they got rid of Leddy. Also, good thing they gave a 500 year old Roszival a 2 year deal when they didn't need to. And gave Crawford more than they probably had to. And got Versteeg back for little reason.

Can't really bag on Stan after his 2010-2013 cap wizardry, but this is a big deadline for him.

Also I'm assuming the guy we are looking to acquire has to be an expiring contract correct?

Edit: or at least should probably be, but I guess we can deal them in the offseason if we need to.

bring on baseball

Just bring on the playoffs. I want to find out if the Hawks are just coasting or simply not as good as years past.

I think they will be fine, its frustrating yes but Boston is in playoff mode right now as was Colorado, while the Hawks are in February mode.

It was either Leddy, Oduyla or Sharp. I think at the time that was the right decision, although what they are missing is speed on the back end now.

As for Crawford his deal isnt that bad. And I know people on Facebook at least are blaming him for the slump but since the 15th, not including shootout goals the Hawks have scored 1,2,1, and 2 goals. That is the biggest problem

At the end of the day, they will have to go thru St Louis, Nashville, LA, and some Eastern team to win the Cup. I think I still like their chances as much as anyone else.

It is maddening that Teuvo is down at Rockford, its also equally maddening Rosival is anywhere but the pressbox. I like coach Q, but WTF?

Rumor is Glencross from Calgary.

Darling signed to a two year extension last night. Raanta will be gone soon.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Shaw gone by next week or at the latest over the summer. I think that's why they brought Hartman up for a few games.

The thing that has fallen off this year for the Hawks is shot suppression. They're still an elite possession team overall, but this is probably the worst defensively they've played over the past few years. 10 teams have allowed fewer shot attempts than the Hawks this season, last year only New Jersey was better. Yup, and yet they still were 2nd in Goals against prior to this week. So I laugh at all the nonsense blaming Crawford.

Keep in mind that Oduya and Roszy both come off the books so they could keep a guy to help even things out in case Jons/ Dahlbeck etal don't pan out.

They can't trade Shaw unless they're willing to play Tuevo at center or they get a center as part of a trade. If you want to say they should already be playing Tuevo, I'll have to agree. But I think they keep Shaw until the off season.

Heard a rumor that Patrick Sharp will be traded. Supposedly he's been going five hole on Duncan Keith's wife.

Is this what I keep reading about on twitter about Dan Bernstein's comments? I cant find what the comments were.

Sharp hasn't been having a great year, and they will probably move him in the offseason, so I could see them trying to fetch a couple of pieces for him (a top 2 D-man and a prospect? Or is that too much for a 33 year old wing?) and bring up Teuvo to replace him (not on the same line but his spot on one of the lines).

Wasn't there a similar rumor going around about that over the summer?

I don't understand why Sharp has been on the 3rd and 4th line? His shooting percentage is about half of what it usually is. That has a lot to do with bad luck, similar to what Hossa was going thru this year until a couple weeks ago.

- Yes, the rumor was that Sharp has been behaving badly with someone, though I don't recall anyone saying it was a Ryno-Palmeiro type situation. Usually there's at least some truth to this sort of thing, and given the pains the Hawks PR dep't. has taken to portray Sharp as a family man...well methinks they doth protest too much.

- Personal stuff aside, Sharp has been very unlucky this season and I thought he played well against Boston yesterday. I was at the game and watched him make several solid checks and fight for the puck in the corner, which is supposed to be Shaw's game...leading me to my next point...

- Shaw has been awful. I agree he will be traded during the offseason.

- The Darling contract was bizarre at first blush, but I view it as a compliment to Ranta inasmuch as it means Stan is getting calls on him and he has real trade value.

- I don't hate the Leddy trade, but we are SO slow on the blue line that its almost embarrassing.

- I do and did hate the Roszival contract. He is the worst full-time player the Hawks have had in years. I watched him give up two of the first three goals yesterday. Yet his TOI seemed to be steady if not increasing as the game wore on. Makes me wonder if Seabrook is hurt or something.

- The UC was half as loud as normal during the intro yesterday (partially because the new current-team animation and music both suck). Its a bad sign when the fans can sense that you don't give a [expletive].

Shaw's replacement played well yesterday in Hartman, and Shaw will be traded either by the deadline or during the offseason. Yes, Shaw is a center, Hartman a wing, but with Kruger's improvement and Nordstrom looking good, plus TT, there are replacements.

Darling was locked up because Raanta is probably on his way out as part of a trade. In the long run, Darling is going to be a very good back-up but probably wouldn't be a starter while Raanta has the ability to be a starter, but needs regular playing time/development. Raanta makes sense as part of a return for a trade package.

I was fine with the Leddy trade when it happened but now I'm regretting it. The defense has been horrid this year and needs to be rebuilt around Keith/Hjalmarsson. Seabrook is a guy I want on the blue line in a power play/offensive attack, but is not that good at defending (regularly screens the goalie, bad puck play in the d-zone). He probably needs to be put back on the same line with Keith, who can hide Seab's deficiencies and elevate his offensive threat. Oduya is breaking down/lost a step, Rundblad is a 7th defenseman getting way too much time.

Roszival got more ice time last night because Oduya went out in the 1st period. That being said: He wouldn't play for the Sabres, why the hell is he on the Blackhawks? He's old, slow, gives the puck away regularly...

Roszival is Q's Neifi, Heinrich, whatever. (This is one of the few complaints I can understand about Q, he is very veteran happy and quick to bench rookies/young players (Pirri, Morin) for mistakes that vets seem to get away with. If Roszival was a young player, he would be in Rockford by now).

Hopefully when Erixon and TVR are healthy they start taking time from Roszival/Rundblad, but I bet Q sticks with the lame ducks for no [expletive] good reason.

The Hawks will have to rebuild the defense this offseason anyways, as Oduya and Roszival are both UFAs.

While Sharp is still a good player, he does have a $5.9 mil cap hit for the next couple years, is 33, and is definitely declining. It sucks to see him go, but he's the odd man out when it comes to trade assets and cap hits. I could also see Seabrook ($5 mil cap hit) being shopped in the offseason if the Hawks really want to re-tool the defense.

When they have a wait list 10K deep I guess they get arrogant. I have a 9 game partial package, three of the games fell on Friday/Saturday, I sold them and it covered the cost of the entire package. The fans that show up now, at least on the Fri/Sat nights are there just to drink, they don't "wait for the whistle" its a pain.

Giving Rosival that 2nd year was a big mistake by Stan. I do think at least for this year the defense can be fixed on the fly. After all they are 3rd in G.A.A, but they are having trouble bringing the puck up ice and generating offense. TVR hopefully will be back and healthy, perhaps they get someone at the deadline and its fixed for the postseason. Sharp will snap out of it, hopefully Bickell turns it on in the postseason again. I still think they have a chance at the Cup again as good a chance as anyone else.

For the playoffs

Keith-Seabrook

Hammer-Oduyla

TVR-New guy

Runblad

Rosival can work the UC parking lot

Waiting for the whistle sucks.

Its definitely less of a hard core crowd than it was 5 years ago. It used to be deafening during the intros and whenever any sort of anything happened on the ice. The chatter was always about the ins and outs of the game. The women behind me on Sunday were talking about the latest in friends and family gossip.

Yeah, I definitely noticed a changed crowd when I went to a game in December. But you know, I'm not going to be one of those people who complains that every seat is full and they can't stretch out -- there were actually STHs bitching about that a few years ago. The important thing is the franchise is healthy and kids/young adults are being exposed to the game now in ways that will benefit the team and the league for decades.
