I don't really care that much about the shootout, though I'd prefer that if they continue, each game be worth 3 points (3 points for a Reg/OT win, and 2 points for shootout win/1 point for SO loss). My six year-old son loves shootouts, though.

No sympathy for bottom of the playoff bracket teams that lose out to teams that "sneak in" via "loser's" point.

It's not really a loser point though. Both teams are awarded a point at the end of regulation tied. The 3rd point is awarded to the winner of either OT or the shootout. Its these 3 point games that are frustrating/ making them more important than a regulation game that ends with two points awarded. I guess make all games 3 point games would make the most sense. Or just make OT 10 mintutes long and if no score just let it be a tie, although that would make OT boring like it was before 2005 when teams would just go into a shell to preserve the 1 point.

Would make overtime periods even more awesome than they are right now unless both teams turtle to get a point. This is the best idea IMO.

I think 3 big market teams becoming elite (Chicago, Boston, LA), plus knocking a half hr off game times has done more to increase interest than shoot outs.

My biggest fear with the SO is that teams are going to start having SO specialists on their rosters like they used to have enforcers. Not sure why that will bother me, it will though.

i think i remember Edmonton playing conservative trap in OT to get to the shootout where their handsy guys excelled

I'm skeptical that people are watching regular season hockey because of shootouts.

Don't [expletive] go with this strawman because you have a meatbally inclination towards game "purity".

Ties suck ass and watching my favorite dudes wear themselves out in double OT is unbearable.

Now you know that.

I don't care if games end in a tie or go to a shootout. Actually, I find shootouts fun. I'm just not sure, after so many years, shootouts add much interest to regular season hockey.

Mother [expletive]. Hawks commit 2 penalties on the same play then the Avs score 2 PP goals in the first 30 seconds. From 1-1 to 3-1 just like that.

Hawks looking to fall to 2-1-3 on the homestand. Sorry but 5 points in 6 games at home is not acceptable

theyll be fine

I know I know they'll be fine until they aren't. I just wish they didn't play sub .500 hockey for 2 straight months.

Not a great start to today....are we really going to win just 2 of 7 straight home games? I know they've mostly been good teams but you figure if the team was just coasting until the playoffs they would have a "yeah we're still a great team" games where they just dominate. Even the games we've won these 7 home games were rather uninspiring. One was a shootout win against a very good team, the other required a 3rd period comeback to beat a really bad team.

Just bring on the playoffs. I want to find out if the Hawks are just coasting or simply not as good as years past.

If we're going to lose it might as well be an embarrassing blowout. Maybe they will realize there's like 20 games left and the team looks like a mess

As an outsider looking in I think there are issues. But still plenty there to make a run though

Oh for sure. The Kings seem to play very mediocre all season and then turn it on in the playoffs. As did the Hawks last year, albeit not quite as bad. I'm just saying the team is playing pretty poorly right now. An 8 game homestand should get you 11-12 points minimum I don't care if you are just hoping to coast into the playoffs or whatever.

But I guess we just have to see what Bowman does this week and then hold on until the playoffs to see how good they really are.
