Week 4: Packers (1-2) @ Bears (2-1), Noon, FOX/780

Posted
I know it's early, but we're 1/4 of the way thru the season and Lamarr Houston is on pace for 4 solo tackles, 8 assists for 12 total tackles and 0 sacks.

Ouch. For all the talk about how great the Willie Young signing was, and how Allen finally came on late in the Jets game, Houston's struggles have really stayed under the radar.

Partly because PFF loved Houston weeks one and three.

I wonder why. He's clearly not getting to the QB. He must be doing something great as far as run stopping.

I feel like the 2-minute stuff is overblown. Fans get antsy when they see the clock moving and what looks like no sense of urgency. Hell, the Bears played the game-winning drives to open last season the exact same way. And the bottom line is they DID actually score on the drive. If that play would have been called correctly, nothing to complain about.

The bottom line is they didn't score. That is the whole point.

Trestman has been a terrific influence on the offensive system, but he suffers from significant weakness when it comes to NFL head coaching duties, including time management and just knowing the GD rules.

Time management on the field is his fault? Why isn't that Cutler's fault?

The decision when to call timeouts comes from the head coach. The pace of play also comes from the sideline. It's not like Cutler is dicking around and they are imploring him to get more aggressive.

Lots of people overreacting like meatballs today. You'd think Cutler would deserve better than the Grossman Treatment, but I guess not.

I still think they'll be fine. Yesterday was down to Aaron Rodgers just being great, and the refs screwing us in critical moments.

Pretty sure the defense deserves more blame than basically "well, Aaron Rodgers is just too great." The Packers, and Rodgers specifically, have looked VERY vulnerable dating back to last season and the Bears singlehandedly allowed them to look like worldbeaters again.

I don't blame Tucker for not calling blitzes, Rodgers is great against the blitz, but there were no stunts, it was vanilla .

This loss falls mainly on the defense but they still scored 17.

I've decided I'm going to concede all Packers games, at least for the near future, and just hope if/when we make the playoffs, we don't have to face them. I don't know why, they just have our number.

Without pressure, it was basically 7-on-7 for Rodgers against that zone. The few blitzes called were incredibly predictable and easily picked up. Some creativity was needed.

Not even just blitzes. Stunt. Stand a guy up just to throw [expletive] off. Throw some different looks in there. How much was Houston on the interior with a 3rd DE in there?

Not that any of the 3 CBs played well, but I would have liked to seen Jennings on Cobb in the slot more and Fuller on Nelson more. Hopefully, they would have won more battles that way and you could have at least forced Rodgers to throw to his 3rd Wr on Frey on the outside.

I know this comment is a few hours old but I couldn't agree more. Of course Rodgers is a great QB everyone knows that. When you put lack of pressure plus a banged up secondary against him it's going to be a catastrophe.

This goes back to January, and I'm really pissed and frustrated right now.

Jay Cutler had a 53.3 QB rating when not pressured. A 139.3 under pressure vs Packers, per @PFF. #Bears

Hmm

The main reason is meaningless sample sizes.

Plus, if he's getting pressured, they're probably blitzing, and thus there's less coverage downfield.

I cant say I expected the Bears to win, but after that first half my hopes were high. This franchise should be embarrassed that we continue to get dominated by the Packers. I would at least feel better if somebody in the organization would admit how angry and tired they are of it happening. I feel bad for the fans that had to watch that beat down live. Thankfully I recorded the game and was able to fast forward through much of the anguish of the second half.

This loss isn't on Cutler IMO. You cant expect to compete for a win if you don't stop the opposing offense at least once and if the QB has a clean jersey the entire game. Houston, Young, Paea and the rookie duo looked like garbage. Whatever hoopla was made about how crappy the Packers oline is, looks to be misplaced at least in that game.

To pile on the frustration, I cant even pinpoint where to place draft picks on this defense. After 2 largely defensive drafts we still dont look to have any questions answered on defense unless you wanna award the #1 CB title to Fuller after 4 games.

Martellus: "There's two places where inches matter, and the football field is one of them."

The other place where inches matter is obviously the Theme Park. Get your minds out of the gutter. Lol

Yup. You might as well blitz rather than letting him sit back there with a perfectly clean pocket. Even if he is perfect against the blitz you don't lose anything inasmuch as he killed us even when we dropped 7 back.

After the first drive me hopes were high. After GB's first drive they dropped off quite a bit. And after the half ended I thought they blew their chance to stay in the race.

The flaw was more in the zone coverage rather than only rushing 4.

Three ratings on PFF released:

Bennett: +6.4

Houston -2.6

Ola +5.2

When Allen comes back, they need to move Houston on the inside on all passing downs. He lives off of run defense rather than pass rush.
