Pretty safe to say the Marc Trestman hire is looking pretty bad with what Mike McCoy and Bruce Arians are doing in their respective situations. We basically had our pick of those 3.

I'll continue to say I like Trestman slightly over Lovie but I don't think he's a very good head coach.

Chargers and Cardinals had young good defenses in place. I guess that still matters more than we thought?

If you trust football outsiders system, the 2012 bears was the best defense in the NFL. He doesnt get any excuse for the defense. Its clear that the team decided to use its resources to improve the offense, and that Trestman has zero value as head coach. Unless this team surprises us all and wins 9+ games this year than its clear that he was a bad hire. There is no purpose defending him.

hahahhahhhahahaha ween always with the hot taeks

So in celebration of today's first touchdown, I had a shot of something called Malort that vaguely tasted like a a dumpster fire's burning [expletive]. I'm told you Chicago folk might appreciate this on some level. Why was this ever made?

Haha Malort. It's part of Chicago culture. No one really likes it but they embrace it as uniquely Chicagoan

Even my beer couldn't wash away the taste. It was harrowing.

Mehful game.

Offensively, either GB adjusted the pants off of them in the 2nd half or they fell apart.

The D-Line was obviously awful. Damn Tucker for sticking to the zone and not man to man at all. can't fault him for not using the blitz much, seen it once when Frey was left to cover Cobb in the slot an that led to a TD.

Detroit showed how important it is to pressure the QB with the front four against GB.

Trestman still continues to be piss poor in the 2 minute drill.

Refs were awful but the Bears still got it handed to them.

Agreed. It's hurting my enjoyment of football though. I hate feeling like every meaningful play is waiting for the flag. I don't remember it being this bad.

And many of these calls are shaky as hell at best, flat-out wrong at worst.

Ok whatever but why no adjustments as it became clear that Rodgers was not seeing any pressure. Halftime adjustments seemed minimal and the game got away from us quickly after that.

Cuz Tucker.

I've never had that impression

Still better than Fernet, imo

It was one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen. That includes the two BS calls against GB on that 1st drive. I can't believe the NFL is still in the 80s with their camera system too.

David,

I recall the Bears over the last 20 games to be really conservative and not good with clock management in the last 2 minutes. It could be clouded judgment but that's the perception I have.

Because he's usually taking a knee with 1:00 left in the half with 3 timeouts like he did week 1.

You guys are funny. Bears are better than Carolina. They'll win. Marshall was fine today. Just unproductive like he's been several times vs Green Bay.

I hope you're right about Carolina. The only game of theirs I've seen this season was against the Lions and the Panthers looked super impressive on defense.

Who knows, but all that really comes to mind are the game winning drives in the first two weeks last year.

I know he seemed to get much more conservative with McCown though.

I feel like the 2-minute stuff is overblown. Fans get antsy when they see the clock moving and what looks like no sense of urgency. Hell, the Bears played the game-winning drives to open last season the exact same way. And the bottom line is they DID actually score on the drive. If that play would have been called correctly, nothing to complain about.

As for the defense, there is never an excuse to sit back in zone and still get picked apart. This isn't Geno Smith. Aaron Rodgers doesn't make mistakes when he has time to throw to a guy sitting in a zone. Ideally, you want to get pressure from the front 4. Every team in the history of the forward pass wants to do that. But when you are not....you gotta force the issue. That's my issue with Tucker for the last 1 1/4 years. What difference does it make if you allow an 8 play, 80 yard drive for a TD or give up a 70-yard bomb for a TD?

Don't get pressure + sit in zone = hope for a red zone stop to hold them to a FG.

Bring blitz + man coverage = hope for no big play, but have a chance to make a big play FOR your team.

I know it's early, but we're 1/4 of the way thru the season and Lamarr Houston is on pace for 4 solo tackles, 8 assists for 12 total tackles and 0 sacks.

Ouch. For all the talk about how great the Willie Young signing was, and how Allen finally came on late in the Jets game, Houston's struggles have really stayed under the radar.

Partly because PFF loved Houston weeks one and three.
