i don't think those (espn and cubs.com) boards existed in the mid 90s. mid to late 90s i posted on AOL message boards and on alt.sports.baseball.chicago-cubs

early 2000's and around 2003 i would post on espn.com and i'd mostly lurk cubs.com. still remember the "if zambrano starts" thread. can't remember how or why i found nsbb but i know i lurked for a while around the trade deadline before signing up around when we got lee.

I thought aol was an early 90s thing, I'm bad with dates I guess, the 90s are kinda a blur at this point. I do remember the if Zambrano starts thread lol, my mind probably just lumps all of my Cubs message board experiences into nsbb since I've been here and only here for so long.

@KevinDruley: #Cougars roster moves: Ps Garner, Ihrig & Rakkar join club; RHP Hoffner (upper body) to DL; RHP Blackburn off 25-man roster (extended rest)

I remember cubs.com going back to 1997. The site was badass back then, before mlb standardized all team sites. The cubs site had a huge wrigley scoreboard at top and they would update the game scores on it. It had a message board back then, too.

I'll be sure to give everyone a full report on Dae-Eun Rhee and Valaikas after the game tonight.

It freaks me out to think of how many of you guys there are that have just been watching us for 10+ years and not saying anything.

Guilty. I love this place.

pretty sure i recall tim throwing out the idea of starting nsbb on the cubs.com mb, and the crew of now mods and that one kid who did kung fu and at some point did concessions in the bleachers all kind of commiserated into nsbb.

Apparently Soler is not in the lineup

@IowaCubs Lineup: Kalish LF, Watkins 2B, Baez SS, Bryant 3B, Jackson RF, Olt 1B, Lopez C, Szczur CF, Rhee P (1-0, 3.46 ERA)

More smoke to the idea that Baez will be promoted

Absolutely. I've lurked for longer than I can remember and have always preferred to read discussions online than participate but the quality of discussion here is really high.

you jerks should participate because this site is really crappy compared to how it used to be (but much better than anywhere else still)

if you recognize the discussion as high quality, there's a decent chance you'll contribute at that level too

Bryant robbed of a hit with a shoestring grab on an 0-2 count. Olt missing changes by a mile.

Nice seats 2 rows behind dugout on an oddly cool night.

Would actually love to hear what Rhee's velocity is and what his split looks like.

Any concern over Schwarbers slow start at Daytona?

He's King and BBing at 18%, so I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before he goes nuts again.

FB 85-89 and getting solid contact. Touched 90 once. Offspeed 53-58 mph and nobody hitting it at all.

KB 415 ft to Rt center!!!!

And id it had hit someone they would killed them-a rope.

No. 53-58 mph on the gun. They are lollipops but still. Split now finding the plate and strikeout pitch.
