Dramatic UZR difference(partially due to not playing CF anymore) has him on track for a similar fWAR. Cuban Willingham is what he has been. Worth his contract and a pretty good player with some exciting skills, but not much of a building block considering his contract and his inability to progress beyond being a 2+ win player.

Almora got promoted because he can make contact with all the weak ass breaking balls in High-A, and the Cubs are hoping he won't be able to in AA and will learn some pitch recognition.

I was trying to make a similar point but unable to come up with a sentence that makes sense.

The promotion was more about getting him out of the FSL than rewarding his success. I'd expect him to spend a lot of time in AA before the next move.

Yeah, that seems like their thought process.

I was definitely surprised he was promoted, but thinking of it this way makes a lot of sense. Likely he's in AA all of next year and AAA to start 2016?

Don't see why that would be likely.

Cespedes was amazing his rookie year but has been pretty [expletive] meh since.

wrong

He's currently on pace for a very similar season as he had his rookie year.

Very similar in terms of net WAR, but his rates were all much better in 2012. He's a very solid but (statistically) unspectacular player. Moving from CF to LF has reduced his value a bit, too.

I'll answer another way. I do not expect him to spend something like 1.25/1.3 seasons at AA. This FO, no matter what they've said publicly in the past, has been pretty clearly aggressive about moving up the actual prospects when they show some extended success.

yeah, I'm not saying he's Nate Schierholtz or anything, but he's not anything that special for a corner OF. 120 points of OPS is a pretty big drop-off.

I think that depends on how quickly (if at all) he adjusts. If he has smart as has been suggested, wouldn't assume it will take 1 1/2 full seasons. Time will tell, but I don't think a mid-2015 promotion to AAA would be a completely unreasonable expectation.

That's the thing though, people aren't expecting him to have much success right away because of pitch recognition issues and it will most likely take him a bit to adapt. I wouldn't be surprised if he spent most or all of next year in AA unless the pitch recognition switch suddenly and magically flips on for him.

I realize that. I do not think it's going to take him 1.3 seasons or whatever to show extended success at AA.

Sharma will tell us what's up.

He probably already knows but is saving it.

He promised something before Thursday and he better be clicking "send" unto Bleacher Nation as I type.

Yeah, I was actually thinking the AA season was closer to ending than it actually is, but there's still about 40 games left. Still enough time for Almora to get close to 200 PAs this year and then 300 or so more next year before they bump him up to AAA mid-season.

You know he's getting his job done when we now have two things to make fun of that are never going away.

Sharma has top-secret scouting contacts that tell him Soler has been locked in at AA.

Baez had some of the same issues, has had only 1/3 of a season of success this year, and now people are thinking he's going to get a promotion soon (and they may well be right). So I would tend to agree with you. Even if Almora struggles the rest of this year and the beginning of next year, it's totally conceivable that he adjusts, puts together a couple good months and gets a promotion midseason.

In response about Almora. I trust our FO in their development. They saw what they needed to see from Almora. I have full confidence this is the right move, and will not harm his development in any way.
