With Russell's D profile why would anyone assume Castro stays at SS. I would Assume Castro at 2B, Russell at SS and Baez at 3B.

 

If that's how it plays out, I'd assume Baez at 2B and Russell at 3B... but after reading some reports you may be right on that. Sounds like Russel is a quality defensive SS. And Baez's arm should play well at 3B

McKinney apparently has pretty good instincts in CF and can play there, but his athletic profile will likely have him end up in LF since he apparently doesn't have much of an arm.

Wow, this happened in a hurry.

 

I will miss Samardzija, but this was a pretty solid return. I like Mckinney a lot, and I see Strailey as a prime candidate for a Bosio turnaround (aka, learning a cutter). I'm not as high on Russell as some, but he's still a hell of a prospect no matter how you cut it.

 

I'm a little disappointed we weren't able to wrap in a couple guys like Darwin Barney or James Russell for an added return. I don't see either netting much on their own, and we don't have much to package them with at this point.

I might be misremembering this, but wasnt it from Moneyball where it was written that scouts could merely look at a player's face and know if he would be a great ball player some day, or some other hokey [expletive] used to describe Lenny Dykstra? Anyways, when I look at McKinney and apply this "logic", I don't see an elite baseball player.
