Am I crazy or doesn't that just sound like he's saying that he's one last hurdle (being this MRI) before he can get back out there again? Edited by David

Yeah I'm not seeing the problem. It sounds like if the MRI is good tomorrow he can start throwing again.

Baez tacks on his second single of game two.

Can't believe they're actually playing game two. It's 12:45 in Memphis and the game is tied in the 6th so there's a chance we see extras.

i know they like to take it slow with advancing prospects, but he has to be called up to iowa pretty soon. what's the point in letting him destroy the southern league for another month or two?

$$$

Don't have to pay him those big AAA bucks.

The minute you promote Bryant to AAA, you open the door to promoting him to Chicago if he tears it up there, too.

which means of course Javy will be fatigued and get today's game off. The only game that will be televised. Either that, or he'll go 0/4 with 4 Ks.

it's going to be really hard to hold bryant back in the minors until next june or whatever. i get that teams like to set the arbitration clock back, but given his current production, it would seem pretty ridiculous to keep him in the minors for more than another year.

not to mention that they'd probably like more than 3000 fans at games in august in september, and i doubt fans are going to be excited to see arismendy alcantara getting his feet wet.

I don't see why it would be hard. They haven't cared about attendance in August and September for several years now, why would it make a difference this year?

To me, it all depends on how close they were to projecting revenue loss over the past couple of years. If we're stuck in this debt structure hell and have missed projecting attendance by quite a bit, I think it's easy to see bringing up Javy, KB, Alcantara, whoever.....To generate extra revenue to help attendance if the plan involves spending more money over the upcoming offseason.

Of course, the downside being that they struggle and it deflates fan morale even more than it is already.

And how much revenue could they possibly generate? Fans generally get excited about a kid the first week, but if the team is still out of contention then I don't think more than a tiny fraction of the fan base will actually watch/attend more games because these guys are around.

I have no idea if it'd mean an extra 300 fans per game showing up on average or an extra 1000. Or whatever. That said, Theo would probably err on the cautious side, moving it back a year anyway. Making it a moo point.

he only has to be held back like 2 weeks for the extra year

the super two is probably like in july or something though. i don't really get the super two thing so i don't know much beyond that (if that's even accurate).

We can't know the exact date for Super 2 stuff because it's relative to all players with that amount of service time. As more guys get held back for those reasons, the later the date will be. For Bryant and Baez, I really don't think Super 2 is going to be a concern. They'll make sure that 1) they're ready and 2) that they aren't sacrificing a full year of control and then they'll come up.
