Oh man. I'm going to try my best to take all of the rumors with a grain of salt until the dust settles, but damn it, those few days in 2010 where we thought we had a chance of landing both James and Wade were fun as hell.

The days afterwards - when we realized the Bulls were used - were not so fun.

Oh, you mean when Bosh and Wade went to dinner in Chicago and shared this suggestive photo?

The most likely scenario is still Mirotic + picks + MLE.

Most likely, as in, the only changes during the offseason?

If we sign Mirotic with our cap money, we won't have the MLE. But we'll probably still have 6 or 7 mill left in FA money.

I'm just going to assume we won't get anybody of note and be surprised if we do. I still don't see how Anthony can leave so much money on the table.

The 5th year?

BTW, there's a school of thought out there that the Knicks may not even want to/be willing to give him the full max.

Jim Boeheim told us that he believes Melo would leave money on the table to play with the #Bulls.

Boeheim added that he has advised Melo about free agency and has spoken to Thibs about Melo. #Bulls

I'm starting to believe this. Phil is smart enough to take the long view and realize that Melo doesn't realistically fit a window for the Knicks to contend.

Yup, I have a feeling Phil is trying to go all-in in summer 2015.

Of course he does. Even with a maxed Melo they would have cap room next offseason. If Melo wants to be in NY, he's gonna be.

For a guy that has never proved he is a #1 player on a title caliber team and with the rest of the roster largely being crap I don't see how you can say Melo clearly fits into the Knicks window when they could conceivably contend. Unless there is some wink wink agreement to bring LeBron into the fold.

It's not like this would be Anthony's last contract either. The 5th year will still be there for him one day.

This. So sick of hearing about a $30M difference.

Taj/Buckets/16th/19th would leave us with

Rose

Snell

Dunleavy

Love

Noah

with a bench of

Smith/Nazr

with the MLE and BLE left to use, is this right?

He was the number one on playoff teams for like 9 straight years, some of them pretty good teams. And with the current state if the East, especially if the Bulls fail to capitalize should remain fairly open as Wade continues to deteriorate and Lebron up in the air. It's no slam dunk, but retaining Melo gives them a better shot than losing him unless the haul is really good. They can't even really luck into a pick because of how leveraged they are for future pick obligations I think. I think whatever picks they still own the next few years are swaps or other teams.

I'd do it, but would prefer a Melo/Taj or Melo/Buckets combo.

Brian Windhorst is filling in for Stephen A Smith on an NY radio station today - says there's still a realistic possibility that Love and Melo are both Bulls in 2 weeks.

Adding Love would be great. Gutting the team (Taj and Buckets) for him seems bad. We need to add offense to our vaunted D, not trade one for the other. Taj Jimmy and Noah were finally going to start games together. I want to see that. We could keep them, keep a draft pick and S&T Boozer and the other pick (for Afflalo?) to keep our exceptions. That allows us to bring over Mirotic, bring back Augustin and grab another scorer (Warren?) in the draft

Rose/D.J

Afflalo/Snell

Buckets/Dunleavy/Warren

Taj/Mirotic

Noah/Smith

That is better than the 2011 Playoff roster that was two baskets away from being up 3-2 on the Heat.
