With Rose (Assuming at least 80% health), at least 1 of Butler/Gibson (thinking might lose 1 in a Melo S&T), and Noah a lot of Melo's defensive shortcomings can be mitigated. You have guys who can take the best wing player and a rim protector. Also with Thibs I trust he can get a little more out of Melo and/or come up with the right schemes.

Thibs needs just one lock down wing guy for his scheme.

The question was also kind of posed with "if we got Love" to be completely fair. If we were thinking going D over O at one spot I think you'd actually have a better argument to chose Melo over Love and keep Taj for D reasons. But Melo/Love still wins.

Melo/Love>Melo/Taj>Deng/Love. IMO

the bottom line is they've gotta come away with one of melo/lebron/love this offseason while keeping noah (and rose since nobody would take him). they just can't miss out again. they've got cap space, the 16th/19th picks, the charlotte pick, the rights to mirotic, gibson, butler, and that other pick they got in the deng trade. overpay if you must.

Why would the Knicks want to do a sign and trade with Melo for Boozer? It doesn't help them at all. Just let Melo walk.

Expiring contract for $16m?

And probably a draft pick.

Nice thing about a sign and trade in the case of Melo is that you don't necessarily have to part with equal value to get the return you seek.

Even though it's NY and they throw around money, accepting Boozer back does likely mean luxury tax along with possible repeater tax concerns. So we have to give them something worthwhile probably. Best case scenario they like one of our two 2014 picks as a main part of the package. Thing is we won't be able to directly pick for them.

The other possibility is maybe having to accept Felton or JR Smith to aleive some of that salary for them.

"If I'm Melo, I'm definitely not going to Chicago," Webber, a former NBA star and current TV analyst, said Wednesday on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" on ESPN Radio. "That's just not the place to go. When D-Rose was healthy, they had terrible offense. [Coach Tom] Thibodeau is a great, great coach, but offensively you have to have an offensive-minded coach as well, someone who can adapt like a [spurs coach Gregg] Popovich, who uses talent and not just harps on them that we're going to play hard every night. Everybody can play hard every night, but can you play with the IQ, can you play with smarts every night?"

I'm absolutely certain that Chris Webber's life will end in some sort of murder-suicide.

Thib's teams offensive ratings each season:

11th

5th

23rd (no Rose)

28th (no Rose, Bellineli, Nate Robinson, Deng, etc)

http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CHI/2011.html

11th best offensive rating for a team that started Keith Bogans at SG and gave big minutes to Taj (pre-offensive improvement), Ronnie Brewer, Omer Asik and Kurt Thomas

http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CHI/2012.html

5th best offensive rating despite their only shot creator missing over half the season. Imagine how they would be with a second elite scorer in the lineup.

Windhorst was on with Waddle and Silvy and thinks the Bulls have a better than 50% chance at Melo.

Nothing in stone. But everyone I talk to seems to think Melo is going to Chicago. #Bulls #Knicks @StacyGSG

Again....

"Lebron to the Bulls is a 'done deal' according to an executive" - NY Times June 28, 2010

"Wade to the Bulls is imminent" - Jason Goff July 3, 2010

"Boozer fails to be in the correct defensive position for the 749th consecutive possession" - Daily Herald March 31, 2013

Don't fall for this BS and get excited only to have the rug pulled out from under you. Not attacking David or anyone that posts these, I just want to bitch about how shitty 2010 was when I spent 2 weeks glued to RealGM for updates before learning that all those reports were rubbish.

It's been going on so much longer than that. Bulls fans getting hype and then getting the rug pulled out from under them has been a tradition for as long as I can remember post-Jordan.

I almost bet on Lebron to Miami at like 8-1 on Sportsbook.com after the Stephen A. Smith report came out, but I couldn't remember my password and gave up.

Webber is a schmuck. Then again his best years did come with the run and gun, no-defense, Kings....

Who couldn't get past the Lakers.

And the comparison with Pop is a joke. Everyone is sucking his ------ now, but two years ago he was eliminated by freaking Memphis in the first round. He's a great coach, but he's not someone who caters to offensive stars or is otherwise known for his offensive genius. He has had some of the best individual scorers in the game for years in Parker, Duncan (perhaps the greatest back to the basket center/forward of all-time), and Ginobli, and has made great decisions in surrounding them with talented and unselfish role players. That's not the same as being some creative offensive genius.

This has to be considered unbridled optimism from Mr. cold water himself

K.C. Johnson ‏@KCJHoop 2m

There's interest on both sides for Carmelo-to-Bulls. But remember: At this time in '10, most had Bulls as faves for LBJ. Lot has to go right

Most had the Bulls as favorites for LeBron...and there really was no possibility that LeBron was ever going to come to Chicago right?

Seems to me they're going for plan B. Afflalo is exactly the guy I thought they would pursue before Melo became a thing. Something like Afflalo/Mirotic/Blatche with a Boozer amnesty is an off-season I could live with.

Rose/Hinrich

Afflalo/pick

Butler/Dunleavy

Gibson/Mirotic

Noah/Blatche

Or I suppose this could be step 1 in a Love deal, but I kind of doubt it.
