Aggrey Sam on the radio said he thinks all these Thibs rumors are pie in the sky things, and that he doesn't think Thibs is going anywhere this offseason.

I still think its more likely than not he says. What bothers me is that there is a non-zero chance he could leave and unless we got blown over with a return, I don't understand why it had to come to this.

People with their level of drive and talent start to piss each other off. Its not unheard of.

That said, if I were Reinsdorf, I'd step-in at this point.

A little late, but I don't think it's a big enough leap from Gibson to Love to make a deal throwing in much else to make it happen.

Melo or bust for me.

I prefer Melo, but if a Love deal somehow materialized first I wouldn't wait on Melo even if it's a hypothetically better deal.

Love being a great stretch four fits with Rose's game really well, though. I don't know if it makes enough of a difference to take the hit on salary difference plus the loss of other assets, though.

Lol if you're getting Love and Melo you're losing Mirotic and probably Jimmy Butler. Which I'm sure would be completely fine with every Bulls fan in the world.

Yeah thats the one question i had about the trades he proposed. Love is the best available asset in basketball and there are several teams that have a need for him, and assets, and are preferred Love destinations. Minnesota is not going to trade him for Taj Gibson (29 next month), Mike Dunleavy Jr (34 years old by next seasons start) and a bunch of late 1st round picks. It would almost certainly be 2 or all 3 of Butler, Mirotic, Gibson, and 1st round picks, and that still might not be enough. Regardless, I'd do it if it meant acquiring love and anthony.

The only other team that can really offer anything is Phoenix. The TWolves do not have much leverage. Love is going to walk.

I don't see how the logistics work out for a Carmelo/Love pairing.

Rose at 18.86 million

Noah at 12.2 million

Love at 15.72 milllion

If you put Carmelo at 20 million (which would already be a small discount) that is already 66.78 million for the four of them, which is over the cap. Even if Carmelo signs for a little less than that, even roster charges for minimum salary players will knock that up about 4 million more so you would need Carmelo to sign for around 12-13 million to make it work (and that's assuming you completely gut the rest of the team). So it doesn't look like you can do the Love trade first and then sign Carmelo.

If the Bulls do it the other way by signing Carmelo first, the Bulls have to somehow open enough room for Carmelo while leaving salaries that can match with Love. The combination of cap holds and players the Bulls already signed seem to make that scenario impossible. I don't see any way to make the numbers work out (once again dependent on what Carmelo wants, but he would have to sign for a pretty low salary to make it work out).

We would be mining the end of U of I's bench in order to get back-ups under that scenario.

Basically what Miami has done. Norris, Haslam, James, etc are borderline guys who only are in the league because they play with superstars.

Which should be totally fine with everyone.

As previously mentioned it can be done. Basically would need the Knicks to agree to take Boozer in a sign and trade and maintain enough assets to deal along with Taj and Butler to get Minnesota to bite. So basically it's not happening.

Most hopeful, realistic scenario for me is Boozer, Dunleavy, non-guaranteed expirings, and picks for Melo and JR Smith. NY wants to dump his 2015-16 salary and I actually like him as a third wing scorer off the bench. I'd probably include Mirotic's rights as well if necessary. By doing a S + T you get to keep Taj and get to use the MLE, which is huge. Could then keep DJ or grab another wing player or big and sign Hinrich to the vet min.

Rose/Hinrich

Jimmy/JR Smith

Melo/Snell

Taj/MLE

Noah/Smith

Noah made All-Defensive 1st team, Jimmy Butler 2nd team. Surprised Taj didn't make it.

Gibson's omission saves the Bulls $250,000 in cap space.

RealGM speculating that Cavs are interested in Noah, Love and Aldridge. Have to think that the 1st pick in the draft would be the bait.

Would you do Noah for the 1st pick plus Waiters or Tristan Thompson?

Yes and I'm one of the biggest Noah fans around. It would be heartbreaking, as I'd really love to see Noah win a championship here, but you'd have to do it.

That said, no way the Cavs or Bulls would do it.

I don't buy that report. It sounds like the same thing that Chad Ford speculated on last week when he said if the Cavs were shopping the #1 pick it would be for a big like Noah, Love or Aldridge. I don't know why the Cavs would trade the #1 for Noah or Aldridge as they will both be 29 next year and making over $10m a year. Love I could see, but overall I don't think they trade #1 unless they are either getting a later lottery pick back and/or they think they are getting LeBron back, but the draft is before FA so its unlikely.

I was really hoping the Cavs would try to leverage the fact that they have 3 first rounders next year to play with. 2 of those, Waiters, and Thompson would have to be right there for as much as anyone would want to give for Love, then with him in the fold you can put the press on LeBron to be part of a new big 3 plus Embiid/Wiggins. After next year you'd have to pretty much gut the current roster of salary to make sure you can keep Love and Irving, but with the #1 and #33 plus a first rounder in 2015 they'd be in better shape to avoid the stars and scrubs trap the Heat fell into(plus their big 3 would be a bit younger). Such is fantasy I guess. Giving up the #1 for Noah seems like a particularly bad win-now move since they have Varejao already on the roster, but depending on the circumstances I could see it making sense for Love or Aldridge.
