Oh that speedy 2B guy with upside? Like this gamble. Our 2B and 3B should be a lot better by the end of this year. Even if guys like this and Olt don't work out. We have a pool of prospects all competing for these 2 spots.

Expounding on what Kyle said in the other thread, I like it too. I think he WILL make the roster, likely at Roberts and Watkins expense.

Roberts could wind up in the mix for the 5th OFer spot though, as it can't hurt that he's really versatile.

Honestly, I'm more than a little surprised Bonifacio didn't get a major league deal.

He'll have to earn it because of the flexibility of Barney and Valbuena, but that's a nice addition.

Didn't realize this: He evidently had agreed to 3.5 with KC just a week or so earlier, prior to arbitration. KC signed Bruce Chen and being up against their budget, had to cut Bonifacio. Evidently, it wasn't a guaranteed 3.5 either.

Was hoping they'd get him as I've always liked Bonifacio. Really hoping he makes the team.

Heyman just said he turned down major league deals for a minor league deal with us. I think that pretty much says he's making the team.

I like hearing that.

Bonifacio can be used all over the place, having been used at 2nd, SS, 3rd, CF and LF in the past few years. I also love that he provides a legit threat to steal a base on a team that doesn't have many.

Arb awards aren't.

Yeah, that's got to be a verbal agreement, sort of like giving Schierholtz playing time.

Edit: or it could just be his agent saying agent-y things.

So does this mean we're waiting on a trade so a spot on the 40 man can be opened for Bonifacio? If he actually turned down major league deals to come to the Cubs you'd have to think it's a strong possibility.

Well, don't remember the day, but Fujikawa will be put on the 60 day DL at some point, opening up one spot. If Cabrera doesn't make the major league roster, that'll be another open spot, since he's out of options.

I honestly didn't know that. Is that the case in all of them? For some reason I thought the only way to non-guarantee them was set around a certain spring training date that if they make it that far, it becomes guaranteed? But not all have that clause in them.....

I think all arbitration awards have that clause, and if you sign a guy who would have been arbitration eligible, it acts the same way.

The 60-day DL should have opened with pitchers and catchers reporting. The Dodgers have already used theirs.

Given that he's reported to be graduating to mound-throwing "soon," I wonder if maybe Fujikawa might not go on the 60-day at all?

The earliest I've heard on him being ready is June. I think it's very likely he'll go on, didn't know that date has already come and gone though.

i've always liked Emilio for mostly superficial reasons, but you know a guy with a career 8% walk rate despite minimal power has the kind of hitting approach Theo wants to incorporate

he's also a pretty good case study for positional adjustments

career, he's roughly UZR/150 at

2B/3B: -5

SS: -10

RF/LF: +5

CF: -5

Bonifacio was once one of the better players for the South Bend Silver Hawks. Liked him because his name is fun to say. That's about all I've got.

Remember that time he hit that lead off inside the park home run on opening day and then stole 3 bases the same day, and you were so upset you couldn't get him in your fantasy league in time, and the guy who picked him up was all like "Haha, too late motherfuckers!!!"

Per Heyman on Twitter, Bonifacio gets 2.5 million if he makes the MLB team, with 425k in potential incentives.
