Somebody convince me on Vogelbach, I'm not sold.

He's so good at hitting, that if he had a position he'd be in the discussion for top 4.

What about the fact that his OPS was 25th in the Midwest League last year?

I get the theory that his bat would place him very high if he actually played well at 1B and that he did actually destroy AZ and the NWL, but if it is all about the bat, shouldn't the lack of dominance last year be a little disappointing?

Raw power #s were down this year, but he was hitting the ball well. BB/K ratio is fantastic and his walk rate and K rate are great for a player at that level, which translates well to higher levels.

His number one goal, according to him and the FO was to learn to go the other way more, which they thought would result in a power decrease initially.

Vogelbach is my lone vote, but he's closer to the following guys than the voting would probably indicate. He needs to hit a LOT, and even with strong peripherals he only hit decently for a 1B. Not disaster, but he's not necessarily still on track to be the monster we hope he becomes.

Okay.

But again, in order for this guy to make it he's going to have to hit like a beast, which means top of the list. He was 25th in OPS in the Midwest League. We know he can't field, we don't know how well he can hit. I think we need to see him at the top of the leaderboard. There's nobody else screaming to take his place here, but I'm looking to push him as far down as possible until he actually does dominate a full seaosn league with the bat.

Like you said, I don't think there's anyone behind him that you can make a strong argument for. Candelario is young, suspect at 3B, and hasn't shown any power yet. Villanueva's bat is very iffy, and we all know what's happened to Olt.

To me, the only other player with a reasonable argument for going here would be Vizcaino, and that only if you expect he's healthy.

Yeah, I was all set to go Vogelbach/Candelario/Vizcaino until I read the quotes about Arodys from Cubs Convention.

I thought Jeimer was considered to be an okay fielder? I have Jeimer ahead of Vogelbach. He's about 1 year younger than Vogelbach and definitely will be able to play somewhere in the field. This past year they had about the same amount of PA's in KC. Jeimer also showed growth and good power numbers in the last 1/2-1/3 of the season last year while still maintaining good bb/k rates after and awful first monthish.

Jeimer in KC at age 19: 572 PA .256/.346/.396 11 HR, 35 2B, 11.9 BB%, 15.4 K%, .290 BABIP, .346 wOBA

Vogelbach in KC at age 20: 500 PA .284/.364/.450 17 HR, 21 2B, 11.4 BB%, 15.2 K%, .305 BABIP, .371 wOB

I went with Olt because I'm an optimist. The only way Vogelbach will be of value is via trade to the AL, and that's only if his numbers improve. However, Olt could drop dramatically for me by May. I think his past performance earns him another shot to prove he's fixed himself.

The hope that he's fixed and we instantly have a stud 3b on the big league team is just too much for me to let go of yet.

I went with Vogelbach because I'm optimistic that the NL will adopt the DH by the time he's ready.

I got to admit, there's a part of me that is tempted to vote Villanueva here ahead of Vogelbach. I didn't, but the plus defense at 3rd, improved power ... it's tempting because of Vogelbach's limitations.

As a side note, is Rivero on here as an option because someone feels that way about him, or is he on here just to fill things out? I like Rivero, I think he'll see the bigs this year ... but I've got a tough time buying him anywhere in the top 10.

Voted Vogelbach and Villanueva in that order. I put Villanueva in front of Candelario due to progress and proximity to the majors. Still think he'll end up a regular 3B in the majors somewhere.

I have a hard time buying most of those guys anywhere in a top 10. It's a big mess from 14 on for me.
