McNeil and Speigel just had some guy on that said Shea and Bostic are going to compete for the SAM LB spot in camp next year. That seems like a really terrible idea considering Shea gets blown to bits trying to play the run.

Some guy, like a random caller with an idea, or some guy, like a new LB coach?

A reporter type who seemd to have a clue. Don't remember the name. It was in the 11:00 hour if you want to look for it.

This isn't just a rumor, Emery pretty much said that Shea is out of position and will be tried at Linebacker. The only position that he can most likely play is SAM.

No, they could try him in the middle or at will.

My preference would be to use him as part of a hybrid system in which he can line up anywhere. Bring him up into any gap or on the outside and let him chase the QB and do literally nothing else.

Shea is NOT a MLB. He can't get off blocks and has very little instincts to began with. SAM allows him to blitz more and react quicker.

Bears will re-sign DJ IMO and draft a MLB at some point in the draft.

Will linebacker already has Briggs and then Bostic/Greene as his replacement.

FWIW I also don't see the Bears picking DT in the first round. I think they select a more impact playmaker then a DT. Safety, LB, CB or DE IMO.

Problem is value, if they stay at 14.

LB: only non-astronomical reach option is CJ Mosely. I don't think they go LB early, as they just picked 2 young LBs. Do they see how the 2 failed last year and then throw another rookie in there to try and start?

CB- lots of guys here. I could see Dennard, Gilbert, or if he has a great pre-draft workout, Roby

S- I think Dix and Pryor (who I love) are top 2. But both are huge reaches at 15. Both are borderline top 25 talents.

DE- Clowney will be gone. Tuitt's not a true edge rushing DE. It's Kony Ealy or bust here.

At DT, you could have Nix, Hageman, Tuitt (could fit here), and Jernigan in the mix.

urlacher was terrible at getting off blocks. the question is, is Shea athletic enough to play in coverage?

Oh, I could see Clinton-Dix and Pryor both going top 25. Clinton-Dix probably goes top 20.

What the hell is an E grade?

Out of curiosity I traded every draft pick (including the next two first rounders) for the Texans 1st overall and then drafted a punter.

Got a score of -317.

Woo.

I actually have Pryor rated higher than Clinton-Dix. I could see the Rams taking a S, right before the Bears at 13, but that's a big reach to me. After that I'm thinking Packers at 21 would be the best chance. My guess is one goes in the 20s, the other top of the 2nd.

Paul Pasqualoni hired as new Bears linebackers coach.

Interesting. He sucks as a head coach, but was LB coach for the Cowboys earlier in the 2000s. Also Dolphins DC. Gets a lot of credit for the development of Demarcus Ware as an OLB.

Also of note, he's primarily has coached 3-4 defenses in the NFL.

Odd hire. He's old and has been a coach since the 70's but he only has six seasons in the NFL, from 2005-2010. He's been a tight end coach as well as d line coach and DC. Plus college head coach. Certainly this isn't a guy in high demand, having been fired in September.

Yeah, definitely not planning on him being in this position long-term. He's 64. If he does a decent job, he may get a HC job at a FBS non-BCS school. IF he's not, he'll be basically retiring himself in a couple years.

I wouldn't be surprised if part of the draw on him was he could theoretically be a de facto assistant defensive coordinator who brings lots of experience at the top of (a very shallow) food chain. I don't see any direct relationship with Tucker in the past, unless you want to count them both coaching AFC teams in Florida at the same time. I think they are lacking in defensive leadership, both in terms of on field captains (Peppers is a bit of a lone wolf, Briggs is a second banana and Tillman is gone) and coaches (Tucker has DC experience but he was running his boss's defense in each instance, as they were both DC themselves, while Jon Hoke is probably the most experienced). The rest of the defensive staff are either just getting introduced to the coaching world, or their experience is in Canada.

The last time Syracuse football was noteworthy (read: ranked), Paul Pasqualoni was their head coach. And it was a long, long time ago.

I guess that's the biggest feather in his cap. Maybe the Bears are hoping he can tap into that a little bit.
