Denver opened -28 vs Jacksonville. I wonder what the highest opening NFL lines ever are.

That is the highest open ever. I have to imagine that the Packers and Patriots of a few years back had some pretty big lines, for recent references.

The 07 Patriots had lines approaching -20 a couple times, might have had one that peeked just over that.

I think Pats Eagles was at 24 by gametime

Wow, the NFL sucks. I think looking at every team either based on their record so far this year, or the level of talent on the team, about 1/2 the league should be considered a "bad" team.

PIT, ATL, NYG, WAS, MIN, and HOU are all talented teams that are playing terrible football.

JAX, TB, SD, CAR, PHI, and OAK are just bad teams that lack sufficient talent.

STL, ARZ, CLE, NYJ. MIA, TEN are IMO teams that may hang around and compete for the last wildcard spot, but are not as good as most teams typically at the back end of the playoff seeding.

Interested to see if the Browns can beat the Lions. That game has moved up from total crap to mildly interesting now.

The worst point differential in the history of the NFL is the '76 Bucs, at -278. The Jags are now at -112, through just 5 games.

On the subject of point differentials, the Eagles are now leading the worst division in the league with a -23. The Bills are in last place with a -18.

This is definitely a pretty weak slate of games, but sometimes a cool upset comes along and makes it fun. Just better not be on Thursday night.

I think we can place Pittsburgh in the "bad teams that lack sufficient talent" category. Their offensive line is a disaster, the defense is old and their rapey quarterback looks like he's lost a few steps.

Also, unless Gronkowski comes back, New England might be more "bad" than "underachieving." I think they should definitely be in the category above.

You think the 4-1 Patriots are underachieving?

The Pats had three games over 20 that year.

According to The Gold Sheet, a sports-betting publication that has been tracking point spreads since the 1950s, that number ties the highest spread of all time, set by the Baltimore Colts over the expansion Atlanta Falcons in 1966. The Falcons covered. It is the highest since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.

My bad, I forgot they won those monstrosities against Buffalo and New York.

Panthers at Vikings not doing it for you?

It will be interesting to see what the Packers defense looks like without Matthews. Hopefully their terrible.

If the Panthers could get their heads out of their ass for 3 hours on Sunday, watching them beat a divisional rival would be kind of fun. But no, not real excited about that game on paper :).

It feels like the Packers just dial up whatever offense they need to compensate for defensive failures. I'm not saying their injuries on D won't have an effect, but I expect they can compensate for it more than most other teams by just being more aggressive on O. We'll see.

Gabbert's career peaked in that win over Oklahoma in 2010. He probably should have just quit football after that.

The rest of the U of Missouri did.

Umm, undefeated in the SEC. They are walking in tall cotton right now, sir.

Geno Smith's Monday Night Football performance was the highest QB rating game any QB has had in the 2013 season. 147.7.

That includes a 500 yard, 5 TD game and a 7 TD, 0 INT game.
