That's too much to give up for a 15-20th pick in the 1st. They overdrafted for Richardson last year and they make up for it by getting rid of him for too little.

Clev. wants to completely rebuild and traded their likely only position of true 1st rd. value.

Quite the battle will arise between them and Jacksonville for Bridgewater.

I don't think a 3.5 yard/carry running back (or any running back not named Adrian Peterson, tbh) is worth even a mid first rounder.

i just don't see how a 22-year old RB who totaled 1300+ yards and 12 TDs as a rookie a year ago doesn't fit into a team's plans. i know he's got his injury troubles, but i can't really see how this makes sense at all

Agreed.

And I don't know that this is a good return. They just picked him 3rd overall LAST YEAR. Theyre going to trade a #3 pick for a pick likely in the 20s because the Colts are an 11 win team and playing in a weak conference.

The Colts aren't an 11 win team

He is for the 1st 4-5 years or so, especially hit/miss ratio of mid to late 1st rounders.

NFL Logo re-designs. Love a lot of these. Raiders, Bucs, Redskins...

The Bears one is ok...the inclusion of the C is a nice touch, but I don't love it like I love some others...

why is an engineer from prometheus on the cowboys logo?

Hah, after watching the first two jags games, I'm not sure we could beat the Lions team that went winless. They could certainly score on us, and we can't score on anyone.

This is the worst sports team I have ever seen and since I'm posting here you can assume I have seen lots of bad teams.

When he was drafted in 2012 doesn't really matter. Presumably this front office prescribes to the theory that no rb is worth such a high pick, and they know they will suck for many years without a complete roster overhaul.

I think it's a good move for both teams, and a good move for richardson. A RARE WIN-WIN-WIN.

Colts get a presumably good back, and they're fighting to take over the afc after brady and manning retire. browns get good value for a RB and Richardson gets to play in an offense where the team can actually open the field up by throwing the ball.

Hopefully Indy finds ways to get him in space or gives him big holes to run through, because he's not a very instinctive back. He is the hardest back in the league to tackle one on one, though, which means Indy now has the hardest QB and RB to take down. Maybe this is what Irsay meant by forming a NASA heat shield?

Those all look like they belong on an AFL team. Terrible.

The Bengals one looks like some kind of weird tiger embryo.

Was anyone else appalled by the unsportsmanlike conduct of the Seattle Seahawks and their fans, juiced on noise, which surely creates as big an advantage over an opponent as any performance enhancing drug and which, to their shame, NFL officials turn the same blind eye they have to concussions and drugs ("Seattle states case loudly, clearly in rout," Sports, Sept. 16)?

It would be simple to fix. Seahawks players and managers would ask their fans to cease and desist, and the NFL would implement a new rule: The visiting team may stop the game when fan noise is greater than a specified decibel level, and should this rule be violated in more than three games, no home games will be played at the offending field for the rest of the season, including playoff games. Things would quiet down.

I wouldn't advocate ever taking a running back with a first round pick, so one that has already shown to be not all that great (at least so far) definitely isn't worth one in my book.

They were last year, which is what I meant. Coming off 11 wins and playing in a weaker conference this year.

They weren't actually 11-win quality last year though and were always destined for regression of wins (if not quality). I was wrong last year when I poo-pooed their chances, I won't be this year. The Browns will receive a pretty decent pick from this trade.

That said, I still like this trade from the Colts perspective. The Colts needed a running back and Richardson still has a chance to be special. There may be very few, but he is one running back I'd use a first round pick on.

Because stats for the first seventeen games of a career, on a bad team with no passing attack are predictive of the rest of a career? Yeah, I'm going to remain dubious about that.

And for people who care about evaluating a front office, its gives a pretty clear-cut break for the new Cleveland front office to no longer be able to blame the old one, since they have a ton of picks this year. Now they have no excuse to be terrible next season and should be competitive in 2015, otherwise these guys are terrible at their job.

Well, it's more the fact that he's a RB in the first place than what he did in Cleveland.

As QB centric as the NFL has become, combined with the fact that the Browns don't have one, gives them a small out. If they're not as terrible as Jacksonville and don't get Bridgewater, who do they go after and when do they pick a QB?

Sure, I think that's a reasonable position. I wonder if that has become such a cliche it might need some re-evaluation in some circumstances, at least (maybe not). I would just vehemently disagree that his first seventeen games prove that he is a 3.5 yards-per-carry back.

I think his talent level says he can be, though he's certainly going to have to break longer runs than he has so far.

It's proven he isn't special. A special dynamic RB would have done more than he did even with a crappy team.
