Patriots coach Bill Belichick had his response ready when asked about the status of tight end Rob Gronkowski on Wednesday morning.

"We haven't practiced today. We've just been sitting in a meeting. He looks great sitting in a meeting," Belichick said.

They traded a first round pick for a running back?

I'd say they're doing a Theo-style rebuild, but drafting a 28 year old QB with a late 1st rounder doesn't fit that philosophy...

Different front office did that, and because of Weeden's age, the fact that he's either developing slowly or not at all means they have to move on quicker.

Value-wise it's a good deal for the Browns, but I feel bad for my friends that are Browns fans. To see such a white-flag deal 2 weeks in really has to take the wind out of the sails, even if it is a prudent decision. Hopefully Teddy Bridgewater is everything they've dreamed.

Knowing the Browns, they'll go after Manziel instead.

I know the outrage here is focused on the Browns, but I'd hate this deal if I were an Indy fan. Hasn't the NFL come around to the POV that running backs generally aren't worth first round picks?

Hate is probably too strong a word. But I wouldn't be thrilled if I were an Indy fan.

That's my one big trepidation about the deal. But if you are going to deal a first round pick, Richardson probably has as much future value as any RB in the league. Just turned 23, was the 3rd overall pick last year, and other than the Y/C (which I attribute to him being the only option in Cleveland last year) didn't really disappoint.

His cap hits should be pretty small the next couple years as well. Base salaries of 2.25 million next year and 3.18 million the year after that.

I'm mixed on the deal, but it certainly should be an interesting transition. It certainly cements the Colts offense as very, very good this year even after the injuries.

i just don't see how a 22-year old RB who totaled 1300+ yards and 12 TDs as a rookie a year ago doesn't fit into a team's plans. i know he's got his injury troubles, but i can't really see how this makes sense at all

Agreed.

And I don't know that this is a good return. They just picked him 3rd overall LAST YEAR. Theyre going to trade a #3 pick for a pick likely in the 20s because the Colts are an 11 win team and playing in a weak conference.

Man do I love Twitter. Jason Pinkston, Browns OL:

And they got that #3 pick by trading their 1st(#4 overall), 4th, 5th, and 7th round pick.

There are some obvious concerns about Richardson, but the potential is there. Exciting trade.

Yes.

Browns made a crappy pick at the time that only looks crappier now and now they get somewhat of a do-over.

I thought they traded up but couldn't remember.

That's too much to give up for a 15-20th pick in the 1st. They overdrafted for Richardson last year and they make up for it by getting rid of him for too little.

Clev. wants to completely rebuild and traded their likely only position of true 1st rd. value.

Quite the battle will arise between them and Jacksonville for Bridgewater.
