Front office is doing a *really* nice job of accumulating interesting MLB arms (in the sense that they can be at least replacement level) for next year. Makes things look a lot less dire and seems to indicate they want to give themselves a chance in 2014.

Which is kind of what I was almost thinking. They said the earlier confirmed deal that fell apart included Sardinas, the Cubs might have just wanted to gather more information (including) health before making a decision.

 

PTBNL I think is not dependant on WS anymore, but on Garza's health and Rangers making playoffs.

 

 

As far as Olt, I still view him as a worst case strong defensive platoon 3b. He's still almost OPSing 1.000 against them in his awful year this year.

Edwards has a 1.77 FIP this year. 2nd place in the Sally league is 2.59. Since 2006, the only others with a sub-2.00 FIP in that league are Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Blackburn.

You add Odor or Sardinas to the trio and that is absolutely ridiculous value for Garza. That's 3 guys who are either currently top 100 or at least in the honorable mention for the top 100.
