RT @JeffPassan: Source says RHP Justin Grimm is the third player.

Someone explain him.

College SP who moved very fast through their system with solid, but unspectacular numbers. Has filled in the MLB rotation this year and gotten battered around a bit.

From a friend of mine who is a very knowledgeable Rangers fan:

If that 3rd player is significant, this is a horrible trade.

Rangers fans are under the same delusion wrt Olt that many Cubs fans were about Brett Jackson last year.

Most of the Rangers fan I talk to have soured on him. This guy knows his stuff.

With Mike Olt on his way to the Cubs it means Kris Bryant will be learning RF and Cubs hope to have a future OF of Soler, Almora, Bryant.

God, Kaplan. Just try to be intelligent, just once.

I mean, there is a chance that Mike Olt will turn out to be good. Thus, Bryant would move to the OF.

they're not going to move the guy they just spent $6 mil on just in case the blind guy hitting .210 in the PCL figures it out.

I agree with the fact that they aren't moving Bryant off of third right now. But in the future they will if Olt in fact turns out to be good.

Really, really, happy with the return of Grimm.

For the record, Jason Parks had him as the Rangers #7 prospect heading into this year. Put his ceiling at a 3 in the rotation.

Still projects as a SP?

You are correct, they will, but people like Kaplan and Ofman coming right out and proclaiming that Bryant is going to start learning a new position NOW is absurd.

In Justin Grimm, the Cubs get a MLB ready pitcher who was Rangers #5 prospect to start the year per BA.

Jason Parks had him as a potential 3 starter with a strong likelihood of reaching that ceiling. Edited by ctcf

I'm very happy with the addition of Grimm. Moving from the AL West to the NL Central should help him, and with some luck maybe he can do a reasonable imitation of Scott Feldman's Cubs tenure.

Yes.

I was hoping they'd get back Tepesch if they didn't get Perez or Feliz, but Grimm is like the poor-man's version of Tepesch. He's the lowest ceiling and highest floor of any of the 3 they're getting.

The good news on Grimm: I believe by July he was leading AL rookie SPs in quality starts.

Bad News: He was pulled in his last start with tightness in his forearm.

Wittenmyer says the PTBNL pool includes Neil Ramirez. I wonder if the Odor / Ramirez rumor was them being on the PTBNL list if the Rangers extend/win WS.

Yes. I love him.

The deal should be listed as:

Edwards, Grimm, Olt, PTBNL.

Or:

Edwards, Grimm, Olt's potential, PTBNL, Olt's ability to see

I'm really excited about him. The prospect guys don't fawn over him, but a guy with his fastball who's striking out nearly 12 per 9 with a BB/9 in the 3s and ZERO HR? The guy has yet to crack a 2.00 FIP for crying out loud.

Thus far, Grimm has been just that. He's sporting an over 6 ERA, 1.65 whip and a 7-7 record.

As I mentioned earlier, though, his xFIP is 4.25. In the majors. And he's not even 25 yet.
