Theo and Jed will not cave. They'll keep Garza if teams start offering Silver(other teams) for Gold (us) deals.

No, they won't. That would be dumb. Any of these deals would be better than the comp pick.

Yes, they will and they'll resign him.

You sure don't think much of Jed and Theo.

A) They will make a deal...as David said, all of these deals have been better than the pick. The odds of that pick, statistically speaking, of amounting to anything are minute.

B) Do you honestly think Jed and Theo are going to sign an injury-prone, 31-year old Matt Garza to a 4 year, 60+ million dollar deal? Because he is going to get at least that (probably more like 5 yrs, 80 mil) and there is little chance he stays effective and healthy for four years.

I have no problem keeping a guy with dominant stuff and a who competes like he does. You don't make a deal just to make a deal and end of stuck with guys who will be nothing more than long relief guys or Cody Ramsom type players.

Resign Garza if that's the case.

McPherson, Wilson, and Kingham for Garza, add Polanco and Schierholtz if they want an outfielder too. If Taillon were available, maybe Garza & Schierholtz for Taillon and Pimentel?

EDIT: Didn't realize McPherson had TJS 2 weeks ago, that changes things.

Never say never, but I just can't see the Pirates being willing to trade Taillon.

I even have a hard time believing Polanco would be available but the Pirates might be in a Royals-like desperation.

Also, amongst teams mentioned lately, the Indians got a Competitive Balance Round A draft pick (after the first round) and the Diamondbacks, Cardinals and Pirates got a Competitive Balance Round B draft pick (after the second round). These picks are tradable.

I see no reason for concern about this. This isn't 35 year Dempster for a return that would never come around again falling through. This is 30 year old Garza for a decent package falling through. If we don't trade him to Texas for a decent package this week, we'll trade him elsewhere for a decent package in the next week or two. Worst case scenario is that we end up with a slightly better package than we got for Dempster.

I would like to see Glasnow and Polanco as the center of the deal for Garza and Nate. Maybe one other as a first pass, Kingham?

Isn't the goal of most trades to get the best play(s)/prospect(s) possible, even if your organization has a player(s) at that position? Prospects acquired this year for Garza may prove to be centerpieces in future deals if they're not destined to stay in the Cubs' org. Also, this year's top prospects (especially in AA and below) are always next year's top prospect. Look at guys like Olt, Maples and Jackson.

ALWAYS.

*typo - should have originally stated "aren't next year's top prospects".

The Red Sox and Pirates were the two teams I thought had the best prospects to offer, so these latest turns of fortune are awesome.

The Pirates likely only see Garza as a rental so I doubt they'd give up both Kingham and Glasnow. Add Schierholtz and it becomes a lot more possible because of his added year of control.

The Red Sox are likely thinking extension so I'm hoping the Cubs could get two of the following: Owens, Workman, Barnes, Ranaudo, De La Rosa and Webster.

If the Cubs can get a bidding war going, who knows...

What do the Pirates want with Nasty Nate? They've gotten decent production out of the position and it's not like they haven't noticed he's been in a tailspin.

The Pirates are last in the NL in RF OPS, and while Schierholtz hasn't had a good July(5 for 35, 3 BB 8 K), it's only been 10 games and he's had a minor injury that helps to explain it(plus a .969 OPS in June). Not sure where you're coming from here.

If we could somehow get Henry Owens, Brandon Workman, and Manuel Margot from the Red Sox I'd be pretty happy.

Apparently I didn't either. [/coneofshame]

I'm least interested in Owens amongst the group of top tier Red Sox pitching prospects.

Susac's interesting; can't say I know much about Blach, aside from an insane K/BB.

No thanks to Gary Brown.
