I would do Giolito for Garza.

We have a few months left of Garza and Giolito is one hell of a lottery ticket going forward.

I am not sure what the consensus on him now is, but he is a top 25 prospect as soon as he starts throwing.

Listening to the guys on WGN coming home while ago, and they were saying the Cubs would not get what they want for Garza, that we would all be disappointed with what they get. I wonder why they are on the air with such stuff as that today. They may indeed be right, but why are they saying that now? Said the Cubs set the trade value at about what the Dodgers gave for Zac Grienke last year, and that the Cubs would not get that for Garza. Just made me mad hearing them talk like that. How do you feel about it?

The postgame guys on WGN are depressing as hell. A month or so ago I turned the post game on and all they were talking about was how awful we are and it was right after a game where we blew someone out and were playing good baseball. I get mentioning it but they were going on and on for an hour, criticizing every little thing.

@TheCCO: According to Ken Rosenthal, the Oakland A’s have spoken with the #Cubs about Matt Garza and have interest in making a trade

The A's always seem to have a plethora of cool toys.

Pretty much has to be headlined with Gray or i'm not seeing too much that i'd be interested to headline a deal outside of secondary pieces. Assuming Russel isn't available of course.

Ross Wolf getting Knocked around by the Orioles tonight. Is there any chance Theo can pressure the Rangers into giving up more out of desperation? Daniels has gotta feel like he needs Garza right now.

No. If one starts makes them significantly up the ante, they are a terrible organization.

Paul Hoynes from the Cleveland Plain Dealer saying that the Cubs asked for Chisenhall in talks for Garza and were turned down. I really like Salazar and Lee myself, add an interesting 3rd piece to that(and maybe add Gregg to the other side) and I'd be pretty happy with the result.

Wolf was only making a spot start as Yu and Ogondo come back later this week. They wanted the Garza trade done by today, so could start him instead. I think we got the best offer from the Rangers that we're going to get, particularly if Garza makes another start for the Cubs. The "pressure" on the Rangers to make a deal diminishes over time as their pitchers start rejoining the team and each potential start by Garza comes and goes.

I forgot Darvish was hurt, but it's more than one start. Wolf, Grimm, and many of Perez's starts have been awful. Ogando is an upgrade but hasn't been great this year either.

olt/sardinas/edwards/ramirez for garza/russell would have been really good. if we get value close to that from somebody, i'll be happy

@BleacherNation: The Indians are still interested in Matt Garza, but reportedly not at the price of Lonnie Chisenhall: http://t.co/G3mdUKfd30

If they won't move Chissenhall, I can only imagine that Bauer's nowhere near the table.

@GDubCub: Sveum says Strop could be closer when Gregg traded.

Could "when" suggest that Gregg's that other piece and he let it slip? I know that unless he completely implodes in the next few weeks, a trade is imminent, but you don't often hear a manager openly say that a particular player is essentially a goner.

Its interesting that the Cubs are interested in 3B prospects from these deals. I know I said that no prospect is redundant, but Baez, Villanueva and Bryant aren't super far away and Valbuena is fine holding down the fort until one of those guys takes over. Olt may or may not have been the primary target but Chisenhall certainly would be. I wonder if this says something about the long term future of those players or if it is just a case of getting a ML ready bat. You'd think they would just as soon put Lake at 3b and go after an OF bat.

seems kind of impossible now to lock up Garza long-term.

Chisenhall is gross. I dont care for Olt but I'd take him straight up for Garza before taking Chisenhall straight up for him.

I'm mildly surprised that Heyman is reporting that things are so far now that the Rangers are just another team in the mix. If the issue is Garza, then that's something that's going to hamper any trade. If the issue is Olt, then something like Ramirez/Edwards/Sardinas for Garza alone would seem like a decent workaround. Or even Ramirez/Edwards.

That said, I really do wonder about the Nationals. This was Davey's last ride, and a make-or-break year for some. The injury to Detwiler, plus Haren's struggles, almost forces them to make a move. Granted, they could go after another arm, but they have enough chips to match up on the arm side of a Ramirez/Edwards deal. The desperation of the season is just something I wonder about there. Perhaps they offer up a Nate Karns or a Taylor Jordan (I don't think Giolito gets moved at all, but they have enough "2nd tier" arms, guys in the Ramirez mix, to put a comparable package up) to headline a multiple arms package?

Marlin is the best. That's pretty bad news, but the delay makes more sense now.

To be fair, he's been very quiet post Hendry. Pre-Hendry, well he might have just been JH.
