Has a chance to stay at SS. Can't go stronger than that RT @answerdave: Now that you mention it, however does he project to play SS?

Can't see Bryant keeping Baez off 3B. Baez better defensively RT @threeputt333: with Castro and Bryant. Would Baez be an OF candidate?

I've been thinking this lately and today pretty much cements it for me. Is the Cubs farm far and away the best collection of position playing prospects in baseball? Minnesota has 2 super studs, but is that enough to negate Baez, Soler, Almora, Bryant, Alcantara and Vogelbach? That's 6 bats who all may end up in the top 100 at year's end.

I had something other than the internet to do for 90 minutes (odd, I know) and I came back to check the minor league stats and immediately saw "HR: DAY: Baez, J 4 (13) ."

I immediately, involuntarily exclaimed "Are you #$%@#$ kidding me!?!" in amazement. Wow.

Vogelbach would have to have an absolute monster 2nd half to be top 100, but I do think we pretty easily have the best collection of position players. We have that top tier and then a very decent 2nd tier in Villanueva, Lake, Torreyes, etc.

Heading into the year, they may have had a leg up on us. They had Buxton, Sano, Arcia, Hicks, and Rosario. But Hicks has graduated and Arcia will very soon. Rosario is pretty damn good in his own right, by the way. But we've certainly passed them, because of sheer numbers. Even with them having 1and 2 if we just ranked between the two systems.

Just coming to say the same thing. Holy [expletive]!

Javier Baez is having as good a day as I can remember a prospect having in the 10+ years I've been at BA. 4 ABs, 4 HR.

No [expletive]?? Well I would certainly hope so. What could possibly be better than a 4 HR in 4 ABs game?

Most impressing thing about the 4 HRs, is that it's not like the ball was just flying out of the park. He hit the only 4 HRs in the stadium tonight. I wonder how many times 1 guy has hit 3 HRs in a game and was the only player to hit a HR in said game.

Oh and the HRs went to RCF, CF, LF, and LF. If the 3rd was straight away left and the 4th down the LF line, he went around the horn in a row with HRs. Impressive.

I just don't see any way Vogelbach will be in most legitimate top 100s.

apparently they just decided to keep pitching to him. i probably would have pegged him in the back by now.

Remember the rampage Baez went on in spring training. Didn't he have 4 HR's in a row at one point (in 2 different games)? I think he has the potential to be decent at baseball.

Well, sure am glad I read through this in order instead of latest page.

I actually texted my friend that Javy had 3 HR before even finishing reading. Figured there was no way he had any more.

I know I need to stop obsessing but it's like a car wreck or an episode of Game of Thrones. Castro is down to .617

Even when he makes good contact he's fucked; he had a solid line drive that would have driven in an RBI with a single except Phillips made an amazing leaping catch to snag it.

Wait so is Barney still one of our core players?

I can't imagine that's the case. Things would really have to go wrong for one of Alcantara, Torreyes or Baez to not take his spot.

Well, I'm not sure I would classify it as amazing. Following the ball the whole time I would have been more surprised to actually see it get in for a hit. Clean play, but not that great.

The unlucky one was yesterday when he probably would have had an infield hit on a diving stop by the shortstop, but they were able to go to second to still get a rather slow-footed Navarro.
