Today is the first day of Starlin Castro's career that the Cubs have been as much as 3 games over. 500.

Addison Russell couldn't legally drive a car the last time the Cubs were 3 games over .500

Gosh, I love him. When he's at the plate, he's just straight up action. He doesn't seem to K a lot. I'm sure batting average lovers will soon be calling for him to take the 2 spot, but I like him where he's at at 5 for now.

I trust we all will assist in voting him a starter this year..... What's the NL record for ASG appearances, btw? All-Starlin Castro has to be on a good pace.

He only bats 5th against lefties, btw. Against righties he bats 6th.

Yeah that's not going to happen. The only person with a slim chance is Harper if he stays in the NL his whole career. Hank Aaron and Willie Mays went to 20 ASG for the NL. Spahn holds the AL record IIRC with 20 as well.

Put it this way... Castro will even have a hard time of catching Ozzie Smith for a SS. Ozzie had 15 ASG appearances. Basically Castro has to make the ASG every year till he's 36 or 37 just to tie Ozzie.

Can we not judge a player by all star appearances?

don't really think anybody is doing that. some are just hoping he goes to a lot of them.

Doesn't the article start by saying how many all star games he's been to as evidence of how good he is?

That throwaway sentence in the intro about how good he is is what you're taking issue with in that sweet article?

It starts by saying he has a lot of hits and all star game appearances. It's great that it gets around to smacking people like McCarver in the mouth (though I'd love it even more if they noted the pattern of "lazy" attacks that get thrown around by white "analysts" against brown players). But don't tell me if someone came in here praising a player by saying they have a lot of hits and ASGs that everyone wouldn't shout them down.

the fact he's been to many all star games by this age IS a pretty good indication of how good he is (and how underappreciated)

i see we're all drunk here, so i'll just drop it. yeah all stars and hits.

So you're saying it's sorta like he is praising Juan Pierre, but since we like the player it is all thumbs up?

I stopped being bothered by things like that a long time ago.

It's like getting mad at an article praising Greg Maddux talking about all his Cy Youngs and his 300 wins. Of course they're goign to mention that. It's a major accomplishment either way. As long as it isn't the foundation of the argument, it isn't a problem.
