I thought Votto despised the Cubs and was obnoxiously outspoken about the fact. Am I wrong there?

I think you're reading too much into comments like that from press clippings.

I doubt he has any personal hatred for guys who happen to play on the Cubs.

"I don't like the Cubs," said Votto, the first baseman for the NL Central-leading Cincinnati Reds. "And I'm not going to pat anybody with a Cubs uniform on the back."

I don't know. If he's not willing to pat a Cub player on the back in a stupid ASG for making a good play, I didn't think he'd be working out and giving pointers to his competition in the offseason.

Though, it was 4 years ago and I'm sure there is truth that you shouldn't read too much into one dumb quote.

he's not reading too much into the quote, he's just reading the quote.

by taking a press clipping from like 5 years ago or whatever and taking it to imply that votto wouldn't be friendly or work out with rizzo because he happens to play for the cubs, he would be reading too much into the quote. guys make stupid comments like that all the time to play up rivalries (and maybe he did actually feel that to some extent when the cubs were a better team).

and since they did work out together, obviously that would be reading too much into that probably meaningless (and very old) quote.

Anthony Rizzo: 24 year old in the midst of his second full MLB season, or ageless highlander?

Yeah, I'd rather have Rizzo than Cashner.

IDK Yonder Alonso's .591 OPS is pretty sexy.
