Clark, executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association, will monitor how the Cubs and other teams handle the promotion of prospects such as Bryant in regards to potentially delaying their service time clock and stunting their eligibility for arbitration and free agency.

“I will tell you this," Clark said Friday after the MLBPA held its annual meeting with the Cubs' players. "I will always pay attention during the course of the year as guys come up, go down, different considerations that may be a part of those decisions – we always pay attention to those things. This year is a little different than in years past here as it’s a remarkably talented group in that locker room. There's a very good group of veterans, a very good group of young talented players and selfishly I’m interested to see how everything falls into place.

"But as it relates to when someone may come up, when they may not, those are all things we pay very close attention to and as the year goes along, we’ll see where we end up."

With Kris being from San Diego, there’s a special place in my heart with him," the 6-foot-7 Clark said. "I will tell you that I didn’t realize he was as big as he is. ... I’m excited for him, personally because of the San Diego tie. But I’m excited for the young group they have in general. It’s an excited time right mow to see what’s going on with Chicago baseball.

"I’m only suggesting that we’ll continue to pay attention."

Clark selected his words carefully when asked whether service time will be discussed in the next round of bargaining talks as the CBA is scheduled to expire after the 2016 season.

"I will tell you this – we have always and will continue to believe that it’s in everyone’s best interest to have the best players playing at any particular time," Clark said. "And any rules that are in place that some may be using against the spirit of how they may have been designed, we don’t believe is in anyone’s best interests - the fans or anyone who loves our games, the fans themselves, or even the clubs for that matter.

"I don’t mean to sound like a broken record. We will continue, as we always have, to monitor those types of scenarios and situations in the hopes that everyone does what’s best for the game.’’

Don't think it amounts to much and wouldn't really expect him to say anything else, but yeah.

If they still had Valbuena, I'd say they'd have a pretty easy built in excuse that they want him to get a few weeks in the outfield at AAA or something. They can still say that, but it's just not as easy to make the case. Also could probably say that they don't want to introduce him to the most difficult level he's seen in his life in some of the most difficult (April) conditions of the year.

seems like a lot of responsibility to give to a mascot

[expletive], Aramis is amazing.

Sadly, there's zero chance the Cubs have anything to do with him.

aramis has a lot of apologizing to do about cockfighting before the cubs can even consider it

So Opening Night sold out in under 2 minutes of the MasterCard pre-sale

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation 5m5 minutes ago

Holy crap. Seriously? And this is just the pre-sale. RT @SouvenirCity: Opening Night sold out in less than 2 minutes.

That's awesome. Of course, there are fewer seats for sale. The 5,000 bleacher seats are off the table.

Wow. I'm not even sure Opening Day sold out last year.

ETA: It didn't

I feel like a huge idiot for passing on the MC pre-sale now. I was foolishly hoping to get some during the regular STH presale to sell figuring the 15% premium might be too ambitious to set out to beat in the secondary market.

The hype is out there.

I love when passive aggressive Theo comes out

“I haven’t talked directly to Tony about it, so I’ll withhold comment,” Epstein told Barry Rozner on The Score this weekend when asked about Clark’s comments. “But I didn’t know we needed Players Association permission to send a player to the minor leagues who’s not even on the 40-man roster and has less than 300 plate appearances at AAA. That’d be a new one to me.”

I feel like he had to have been making a wanking motion while saying this.

I love that he started off by saying he'd withhold comment but just couldn't help himself.

So I take it nothing for opening day will be available on Friday during the general public sale? I forgot all about the MC presale.

Just looking at Stubhub at least now the markup seems to be 50% over face value already.

Eh, in talking to the guy I share tickets with and reviewing the emails they've sent, I'm not sure they made all tickets available for the MC sale. Here's the actual language:

As a valued Season Ticket Holder, you will receive an exclusive two-hour window to purchase tickets prior to the start of the general MasterCard Pre-Sale. Additional details are provided below. Act quickly as a limited number of tickets will be made available to each regular season home game for the MasterCard Pre-Sale.
