Hey snood--

With Cliff Alexander committing to Kansas--in about the most classless way possible, I might add--JaQuan Lyle is expected to visit soon. I'd say Kansas is likely to be in good shape with him when/if that happens. Again, Lyle is an outstanding talent but with maturity issues (one would think Kansas and Self would be well-positioned to handle him).

Cliff said he is also going to KU. Does Self even want JaQuan?

I have no idea. But I'd have to think Self, like any coach, would be interested in a player as talented as Lyle.

I think self has one scholarship left and wants turner. The number two player in that class. I'm not sure he wants Lyle.

That's my sense, too. There's a decent chance embiid, as raw as he is, will still go pro this year, and Turner would fill that hole.

Wow, Purdue just landed 2014 7' 2" big man Isaac Haas. He had been comitted to Wake Forrest, didn't sign his papers when expected and then everyone thought he was going to UAB to stay close to home.

Wow... very impressive. Should be a great fit here.

Way-too-early bracket, based on today's Pomeroy data. Straight rating data, ignoring matchup rules (since it's a pointless exercise anyway except for getting an idea of where teams are projected to end up in March, which Pomeroy's data is projecting).

Its really weird without the rules though. IU would potentially face Illinois, Ohio St, Syracuse, then UConn or Minnesota in that bracket.....all teams on the schedule.

Suppose I could have just straight posted the S-curve, but I think the bracket form makes it more readable.

IU's takeaway from it at this point is they're projecting into an 8-9 game at this point (along with Illinois), and are around the class of Baylor, Cal, ASU, Stanford, BYU and Cincy.

Mike Anderson has finally gotten a team full of his kind of players at Arkansas. Not saying they'll be good, but the similarities to Nolan Richardson's third team are interesting.

Purdue plays Oklahoma State next week. Guess we'll see where we're at.

Hot tip: Probably not as good as OK St. Smart just wrecking shop right now. Jeez.

Ha. Not trying to be a dick. Just saying you can't really take stock of your team when you are playing a team that will probably kick your ass either way. Purdue could be very good, but playing OK State wont tell them anything unless they somehow beat them. If they lose by 10-15, doesn't mean they aren't a decent team.

Right, I'm hoping for respectable.

When he leaves to coach Virginia or whoever else starts waving money at him, his kind of players are going to hate him. And after he leaves you'll actually be relieved.

Sure I may be a homer, but I don't think Mike Anderson will be going anywhere for awhile. Nolan and Rose Richardson, who still live just outside of Fayetteville, have been a major part of his life since 1980. Arkansas has largely been his home since 1985 and he has children and grandchildren there. He's always said Arkansas is his "dream job" and everything around his life supports that notion. The UA/Coach Anderson history goes WAY back, and they know exactly what they're getting with him.

If I were a Mizzou fan I would probably have a bad taste in my mouth about Anderson too, but nothing in his career suggests that he is a job hopper. He has a very long leash at Arkansas, because he's loved up there but also because fans wish he would have gotten the job after Nolan was fired. He was more or less the de facto Razorback coach after around 1994 and Hog fans see him as a return to Arkansas basketball in its heyday.

Haas said Painter stopped recruiting him when he verbaled to Wake. When Haas talked to Painter after committing, Painter told him he should keep his word and sign with Wake. That's some integrity. Only after he didn't sign and opened back up did Painter pursue him again. I guess he can understand Wake's pain after losing Derek Willis.

Yep. I was there when he was signed and to me, it was like the prodigal son has return. They LOVE Mike Anderson down there. I don't think he'll leave either unless he gets fired for doing something bad/stupid (alas Petrino).

I only had a bad taste in my mouth from Anderson leaving because of the terrible way that he went and the fact that he left the next coach with practically a bare cupboard after 2011-2012. He did a terrible job recruiting Missouri, and while his teams can be fun to watch, they are equally frustrating.

Anderson's probably more likely to get fired than he is to get job offers from other schools, especially if the new perimeter foul rules stick.

This is something that has me concerned. I have to believe that with the new rules there will be more smaller guys driving the lane, which means a shot blocker as the last line of defense to the goal will be more important than ever. Nolan's team were good but not great until he got Darnell Robinson and Lee Wilson, two 7 footers. Pressure basketball is great and all but you still need an eraser in the paint.

And if one of them rapes somebody, they can just transfer to Memphis!
