Our favorite .100 hitting AAA 3B is bitching on Twitter about how the Rockies screwed him and now Chris Nelson over, saying he loved his time in Colorado, no disrespect to the Cubs. Honestly, I'll be surprised if Stewart gets 50 at bats in the majors this year.

For Kyle from that exchange re: why surgery wasn't done sooner...

@JSapp17 they said surgery was too risky in that area

Jacob Sappington ‏@JSapp17 5h

@IAN_STEWART_2sc but Cubs doctors gave you the green light?

BeefStew2 ‏@IAN_STEWART_2sc 4h

@JSapp17 yes, and I'm all good now

I do know that Stewart is 3-32 at AAA Iowa.

Must just be bad luck that is causing him to be batting .094.

Ian Stewart’s rehab stint at Iowa is up tomorrow, but Theo Epstein says the Cubs could “re-certify” his injury and get some extra time (who knew?). He’s had a couple minor injuries along the way (he missed a game after a hit-by-pitch, for example), so it wouldn’t be completely unreasonable for the Cubs to ask for additional injury recovery time. Obviously there’s no chance Stewart is activated tomorrow, so something will have to be done, as we’ve discussed. It could be this re-certifying approach, or it could be optioning Stewart to AAA, if he accepts the assignment.

My guess is that as long as the player is fine with it, it shouldn't be hard to recertify an injury. And Stewart has said "He's not there yet"

Who do you bump to make room for Garza when he's ready?

Wood on pure performance (using peripherals and not ERA), Villanueva or Feldman on the fact that either might not be ready for 30+ starts in a season.

It's a toss up between Feldman and Villanueva for me, they both have relief experience both are out performing their numbers right now, neither have been starters for a full season (so it might be more likely both have a hard time reaching 30+ starts), I'm slightly leaning towards Feldman and put him in the pen.

Feldman:

3.34 ERA, 5.11 FIP, 4.31xFIP 66.7 LOB%, 3.94 BB/9, .230 BABIP

Villanueva:

2.29 ERA, 4.06 FIP, 3.23xFIP, 91.3 LOB% ( ), .176 BABIP.

If everyone continues to be productive, you can start rotating starters in an out on a near-monthly basis, with the odd man out being the long man when one of the starters doesn't have it that day. Work towards a goal of each pitcher getting 25-28 starts on the year, maybe more for Samardzija if you want to see how many innings he can handle.

I think someone has to be moved out. Perhaps they'll get a spot start but not on any regular basis. A week ago it was Feldman, no doubt but 2 very good starts bring him up. Wood has thrown well and is the only lefty. Doesn't it seem like it would be Jackson other than the big money?

My guess is Villanueva because he has bounced back and forth in the past and can get right back in when/if a trade is made.

I personally think that Feldman needs to stay in the rotation. He's basically here to be showcased as a trade chip. Even before his last start, he was doing pretty well for himself. Unless Wood has options left, I'm not sure that there's any way to juggle it without utilizing the DL.
