Tim Brown on ESPN radio and kinda bashing Trestman a bit. Apparently they didn't get along well cuz Trestman made Jerry Rice #1 over Brown.

I'll take it:

@adamjahns: Montreal media member tells me that the first thing Marc Trestman will do is reform the #Bears O-line. He did that immediately in Montreal.

The difference is you reform a CFL offensive line simply with the dregs of the football world who can't make it in the NFL. The Bears have been dealing with everybody else's dregs, and their own busts, for a while now. We were told Mike Tice was a wunderkind of an NFL offensive line coach. We were told he would come in here immediately and get results simply by being such a great line coach.

You're projecting quite a bit here. At least they're bluntly aware of the real offensive issue at this time.

What projecting?

A Montreal media member telling us what Trestman will do based on what he did with a CFL team is largely meaningless. What the Bears need is a personnel man to select the right offensive lineman (and not go another offseason without even addressing it at all). It's not a matter of "reforming" (whatever that means) what's already there. Trestman isn't going to be the guy to go pick all the right lineman necessary for the job. And he's not going to magically fix what is already there. We've heard all this stuff before when Tice was brought in for offensive line coach.

BREAKING: Joe DeCamillis will be Bears assistant head coach, special teams coordinator, sources say.

NICE!

That's great. DeCamillis was rumored to really want the Bears ST job.

Kind of explains the six hour interview.

Where is this damn press conference?

Where or when? It's going to be Thursday, that was announced this morning.

Whoops, I thought they said 10AM today. I feel dumb.

I mistakenly put it at 10am today earlier, but corrected it to 10am tomorrow. Sorry if I misled.

Which they didn't seem to be aware of under the previous regime, hoping Tice's ability to coach up 7th rounders would do.

Jeff Dickerson implied on the radio that the "assistant head coach" title was a way to make the job a promotion in order to get him to be able to get out of the contract in Dallas.

A guess asst head coach is how he got out of his Dallas deal.

Was he ever really a candidate for HC? I wonder if the subject of coming here as asst head coach came up in that interview.

it's going to be real easy for trestman to address the offensive line with the names out there and the fact that not all of them will be franchised. the draft is also real OL-heavy with our future center for the next 10-12 years being there at #20, i'm sure.

We picked an offensive mind who works great with QB's, has experience with Cutler, and knows he needs to revamp the O-Line. Time to watch it play out. But it's hard to argue the premise. The change in culture has been needed for a long time.

it's not really a job for trestman to take on. It's the personnel people that have to make the difference here.

I'm cool with Trestman. I'm guessing he was the one that could best worth with Jay. Trestman's successes will have more to do with how well Emery fixes the offensive line rather than his play book.

i'm sure he'll have an effect on personnel just like lovie had an effect on personnel.

Rogers gets sacked even more than Jay. Their scheme (and personnel) ensures they can be successful even with issues on their O-Line. Let's hope they improve both areas.

Continuing to add to the skill positions wouldn't hurt, either, come to think of it.

Given Jimmy Johnson's "it looks like" tweet, when it certainly didn't look to anybody else that Trestman was the guy, and given the fact that DeCamillas went from supposedly interviewing for the head coach position and then willingly accepting an underling role under Trestman, within hours of the announcement, I think this decision may have been made much earlier than has been reported.

i will point out that rodgers is less willing to throw into double and triple coverage than jay and will take a sack to avoid an interception. he takes a lot of coverage sacks. his oline is a lot better than ours, but still, his personnel isn't fantastic.

@Seankjensen: UPDATE: Indications are, Marc Trestman wants Rod Marinelli to stay, but #Bears defensive coordinator may not want to http://t.co/HI2AXwEo

Well, they'll need someone to teach Trestman how to be a real NFL coach again

Lovie's effect on personnel decisions did not come into play as much until after he made it to the Super Bowl.
