Okay then. Emery was going to live or die by the outcome of this hire anyway, I guess, but he really is now.

Obviously I hope this guy is the next Bill Walsh. But I don't really buy that talk from Silver that he hasn't had his chance until now because the entire league is dumb.

As far as why he moved around so much, it looked likes his head coaches kept getting fired. And we know in the NFL when a head coach comes in the assistants tend to go too.

So its at least partially circumstances.

Apparently this was between Trestman and Arians, and that originally the Bears were going to announce this last night around 8:30-9:00, but that the 2nd interview with Arians went really well and pushed the decision till after midnight.

I'm on board with the hiring of Trestman. I was initially scared off by his most recent coaching experience in the CFL, but I don't think that's going to be a major hindrance. He's intellectual, and I'm hopeful he brings innovation to a dormant offense that has been anything but innovative.

One of the candidates to interview for the position early in the process came away from his meeting with Chicago expecting the club to now hold Cutler to a higher level of accountability, in addition to administering some tough love to the quarterback, who has underachieved with the Bears.

The candidate said, "The person I spoke with said that is the plan."

The coach acknowledged that out of the candidate pool of potential Bears coaches, Trestman appeared to be the best suited to handle the job of elevating Cutler to prominence.

I just seems so unlike Chicago teams to make the bold hire like this.

I have reservations like everyone else, but I'm also pretty excited to see what he'll do here. And if nothing else, I do appreciate the fact that the team took a leap on a guy they believed could be great.

It seems like nobody (except Butters) hates this hire, but nobody is in love with it either. Just so much unfamiliarity.

I'm more apathetic than I thought I'd be. It was McCoy or bust for me, but if its true he didn't want to work with jay then I'm not too upset by it. No one left is/was all that interesting so we'll just have to wait and see.

The McCoy thing was interesting st first. But I think the whole "hey he can fit his offense around any personel" ended up being overblown. We don't have Tebow and if we end up with a situation where our offensive talent looks like that, Emery and the HC should be on the way out.

Understandable, but it's all we got at the moment.
