Green Bay/Milwaukee, New Orleans, Cleveland, and Baltimore I'd say as well.

I don't think Green Bay counts. New Orleans didn't give a crap about the Saints, or sports in general until 5 years ago, and that was with no competition for local hearts. Cleveland is most likely correct, and I don't know anything about Baltimore.

if you consider Wisconsin a city, it totally does. As far as New Orleans, yeah, they needed to get good to beloved, but they are loved. I also forgot about Seattle.

Times are a changing my friend. I see sounders stuff (hats, shirts, jackets and their season ticket scarves) on people at least 2/1 over seahawks crap and much more than that over mariners. You can't reserve baseball fields in local parks during the summer bc they're almost universally being used for soccer all day long. This here is a soccer town.

Lmao, Gross.

I wasn't here when the sonics were but the seahawks are the clear #2 right now. So I'd guess this was a seahawks town most recently.

i don't get how this could be.

even if they didn't play a disparate amount of games, you don't think the seahawks would outdraw the soccer team?

On October 7, 2012, a record was established when a crowd of 66,452 attended a Sounders 3-0 win over the rival Portland Timbers: the second-highest to-date in MLS.

Wow. What a bunch of losers.

Based solely on attendance? What a flawed way to measure. But yes the seahawks sell out every game. Of course the sounders draw over 40k which is almost double the next-highest MLS team. They play twice as many games as an NFL team and they aren't all Sunday afternoon when attendance is easy.

well you seem to just be basing it on what merchandise you see people wearing or something.

it's pretty hard to believe that any NFL team takes a back seat to an MLS team anywhere in this country, especially an NFL team which, from afar, appears to have a pretty enthusiastic following.

Yes I'm basing it on the appearance and discussions and attitudes of the people I see and interact with in the city in question over 2+ years.

And I'm just asking you to back it up with like numbers or something instead of just anecdotal information. What's with the hostility?

What hostility? I'm giving you the basis for my opinion.

Given my limited exposure to Seattle over the past decade, I could see it. I first went there to visit friends right around the time that Seattle had emerged as a good baseball team. It must have been a few years after they beat the Yankees in that famous series. But I don't recall there being much of a noticeable passion for the team. The Seahawks might as well have been non existent then. Seattle is kind of like Atlanta, in that it has so many people who are not from there. Except there are no black people, and a hell of a lot of 25 year old meth/heroin addicts living on the streets. It doesn't seem like a huge pro sports supporting town. I was last there a year ago and don't recall much passion for any team among the people I ran across. From what I've read it does sound like that MLS team is at least competing for attention with the Seahawks. And given their very recent PR win, they could easily own the short-term interests of the fans. Although if Russell Wilson and the Seahawks build on last season, they will probably own what part of the city that cares.

Weird. I think Seattle is a very good sports town. Leads MLS in attendance by a landslide, sells out the seahawks every game and the mariners do ok. I love that safeco is open air with a roof but it's cold as hell 4/6 months and pretty chilly for night games most of the other 2 months. Attendance was great when it opened and has been steadily declining (though the team hasn't been a real contender in a long time either).

It's definitely a transplant city so there isn't a lot of longterm loyalty. But the people make pretty good money and spend a fair amount of it on their sports teams.

Never understood how NFL games don't sell out in every city.

it blows my mind...especially being familiar with the secondary market for bears tickets.

Because it's expensive and destroys your entire Sunday.

I'd rather sit at home and have the ability to watch any game in HD and RedZone over attending an NFL game, regardless of who is playing. Especially when the closest teams to me are playing in temperatures of 30 degrees or less half or more of the year.

My friend had 7 tickets to Jets games at the meadowlands. He trimmed that to 4 in the new stadium but gave them up 2 years ago. Partially because of cost (you can't get rid of preseason tix), partially because the stadium and tailgate now sucks, and partially because of having kids.

But it is only 8 days a year. "destroying your Sunday" doesn't really hold up at all.

Yes, and they are SO easy to unload for AT LEAST face value if you can't make it or don't want to go.

I'm a Bears PSL holder and do go to about 7 games a year. I leave my condo in Lakeview at 8:30, tailgaiting by 9:30 and home before halftime of the afternoon games. Cold weather really only comes into play 2 games a year or so.
