Really satisfying but I wish it was a better game

BCS Champ games haven't really been great, all the more reason to look forward to playoffs.

We don't agree.

You both don't think a bcs title is likely but that 9-10 wins is more likely than 8. A 10-win ND goes to a BCS game so you are closer to agreeing than not.

You're oversimplifying both sides of the argument.

That won't make the title game any more or less likely to be a good game (see the men's basketball tournament).

A 4-team playoff this year probably gives us Alabama vs Oregon or ND and likely yields a similar result. Playoffs don't stop one team and one coach from being superior.

Well not necessarily but it might lead to more interesting match ups on the way there

I want my 16 team playoff, friends

ND vs Nebraska, Alabama vs N. Illinois, Florida vs. Clemson, et al?

I'm not really a fan of going past 4. 16 would be a waste of time.

I'm also not being hyperbolic.

Neither am I.

I don't quite get that line of thinking. It's not like MLB or NBA where we have a real good idea about the quality of the top teams. Just look at how much the standings change between Week 13 and Week 17 of the NFL season.

How are you going to add 4 games when you can't play for 3 weeks in December? Or are we just going to formally excuse players from finals?

This year Bowl season went from December 15 to January 7. My guess is they can find a way to make 4 weeks of games work.

Alabama didn't go undefeated this year.

6 or 8 is probably ideal if you're going to go a playoff route. If you go the 5 major conference champs, you would have to do 8 to account for at large bids, but if you go top 6, you can just take the top 6 teams and give 2 a bye.

~Dec 15: 1st round (3 vs. 6, 4 vs 5)--this year: Florida vs. Stanford, Oregon vs. K-State

New Year's 2nd round ND vs. Oregon, Bama vs. Florida/Stanford

Week after: Title game--ND/Oregon vs. Bama

There are like 2 bowls in the 12/15-12/20 range. I don't know how many teams have this issue, I'd guess many of them, but ND simply won't play a 12/15 game b/c it's the weekend between finals. I can't imagine taking a week off and then playing 4 more games that start the weekend of finals and run through Christmas and New Years weekends.

Also, with all the head injury issues, I just can't see the NCAA going to a 16-17 game schedule for the teams that make it every year.

Do they really change much? People had a pretty good idea of who was what by week 13. But the goal isn't to be absolutely certain who is the best team. The goal is to stage a realistic and entertaining season.

4 weeks of playoffs is a horrible idea for college football.

What do Lee Corso and Lou Holtz have to do with this argument?

3 of the last 4 Super Bowl winners were out of the playoffs through 12 games. From Week 13 to Week 17 you'll see at least 3 different teams in the bracket, and a couple more jump around seeding-wise as well. The point is that 12 games isn't remotely definitive in anything, so the idea that a 16 team playoff is pointless dilution rings incredibly hollow to me.
