dew...i see conflicting reports today. One says Gruden has removed his name from the UT search and that pay for assistants was the big road block. However, there is another report (Chattanooga Times Free Press) that indicates UT may still pony up the cash for the assistants...? What are you hearing?

Apparently there's a media war going on. Knoxville media members (who largely have sources in the ad) say Gruden's out and never really was in. Chattanooga media members (who largely have sources with the boosters) say Gruden got an offer and the only holdup is he wants more allotment for assistants. Hargis of the TFP is standing by his report and there's a radio host in Chattanooga says the deal is complete and Gruden will be at UT and says his source is #1 UT booster Jim Haslam.

I still doubt he'll end up here, but this media war is interesting.

Tim DeRuyter from Fresno St apparently on campus at Purdue for an interview... I saw he was at A&M for a couple years before Fresno St, Old Style do you know anything about him?

Jimbo Fisher, Charlie Strong, Larry Fedora, and maybe Al Golden seem to be Tennessee's targets now. Butch Davis also seems to be in the mix too. Davis would be a great hire if it weren't for the NCAA issues.

My order of preference from that list would be Fisher, Davis, Strong, Fedora.............. Golden.

Anybody familiar with hogcountryonline.com? They're saying this:

As of Saturday evening, multiple sources have said that Boise State coach Chris Petersen is expected to be named the new Razorbacks coach Tuesday.

I don't know that I buy it, but Arkansas does have money to spend.

@JasonKirkSBN ... and logged straight into Hogville!!! RT @IDS_BroncoBeat: Tried to ask Petersen if he'd be interested in other jobs. He walked off

Brent Hubbs of Volquest (pretty reputable guy) saying that Charlie Strong was interviewed yesterday by Tennessee and it went well. Mike Gundy is apparently set for an interview tomorrow and Jimbo Fisher likely to interview Monday.

Mizzou is really good at having 4-stars decommit.

I'm baffled by Mizzou moving to the SEC. Why would anyone commit to a school that might get to finish 3rd in its division once? Were they that worried about the big 12 going under?

Of course they were worried about the Big 12 imploding. It had already lost 3 members, and UT and OU were courting the PAC Whatever. I still think they pulled the trigger too soon, though. A flagship school with solid academics in a populated state was going to find a home no matter what.

I think being in (and losing in) the SEC has really impacted their recruiting. Mizzou built their program on Texas kids. Right now, they have one. Without those regular games in Texas, it might be harder to sell kids on going to Missouri. Of course, they now have better access to the southeastern states, but I don't think those kids (generally) want to leave the south, especially the top kids. That leaves Missouri fighting with back of the pack SEC schools and ACC schools for the leftovers.

I have to think there would have been room in the 16-team big ten or in whatever conference Texas and OU end up in. I think you're right that they panicked.

Mizzou did a lot of Texas recruiting, but with rare exception they were mostly sifting through 2 and 3 stars to find guys like Sean Weatherspoon and Danario Alexander. The same will likely hold true with new recruiting territory(they have 5 *** commits from FL and GA in the 12 months since they've joined the SEC,). If anything, they saw an uptick in recruiting with local kids, as many of them cited the level of play in the SEC as a compelling reason to choose Mizzou over B12 or B1G offers. 9 of the Top 16 Missouri prospects are Mizzou commits. They have lost a few kids with the crummy season, as is to be expected, so the question is whether or not 2012 is the new norm for them or just a bump in the road. Personally, I think it's the latter, but it's impossible to determine when the OL and QB positions get so ravaged by injuries. If Mizzou barely makes it to 7-5 next year then I'd be much more willing to consider that possibility.

Gus Malzahn interviewed with AU on Sunday and Kirby Smart is interviewing today. Petrino remains a possibility.

I will be ticked if UT ends up with Jimbo Fisher and Arkansas with Chris Peterson.

Kelly sort of confirmed Diaco is interviewing for the BC gig. Maybe he just wants interview experience...

Will Muschamp should be proof enough that a high-profile successful DC can do much better than the BC job. I've also heard reports linking him to Cal.

Is BC really worth missing the national championship? Regardless of how ND's defense does next year (and they should still be good), I have to think this season has wrapped up a head coaching job for Diaco when he wants it.

Mike Gundy rumors are starting to heat up a bit around here. Apparently there are power struggles out there, but he's an alumni of OK St and T-Boone Pickens has endless money. I doubt Gundy goes anywhere.

If I had to guess, based on rumors and media reports, I'd put the chances of UT hiring Strong at about 60%, Jimbo at about 30%, Mike Gundy at about 5%, and everybody else below that.
