Agreed, especially because there are going to be 6 +/- NFL jobs open up in the offseason likely in big markets/well known teams/attractive areas and teams (Philly, Dallas, San Diego, Jets) he could also choose to got to a team with a top 2 pick (Carolina and Kansas City) if he really wants to get in on the ground floor with a team and build that way.

He also seems to enjoy, or at least more into, the NFL game more as evidence my his MNF work and other stuff he does for ESPN on SC during draft time. With all the work and analysis he does with QB's I would find it interesting to see him end up in Carolina with Cam.

This will probably get me ridiculed, but I'm actually not completely writing him off as a serious candidate for UT. I just have trouble believing, when it comes down to signing a long-term deal, that he'll choose college over the NFL. There's simply too much smoke surrounding this situation to think that there isn't legit interest from Gruden.

And in all honesty, I wouldn't want Gruden over a guy like Jimbo Fisher anyway. While coaching, Gruden had a pretty strong reputation of not having the patience to develop young players and rookies. Unless that patience has increased, I'd be concerned that we'd be looking at a Charlie Weiss at Notre Dame situation where he brings in great talent, but can't develop that talent due to impatience. If he leaves the development to his staff and focuses on kind of overseeing everything and in game strategy (where he reportedly excels), I'd be really happy with him.

My top 5 at this point is probably:

1) Jimbo

2) Gruden

3) Briles

4) Mora (keep hearing his name, have my doubts he'd leave UCLA, though)

5) Patterson

Mora is not leaving UCLA after one year, especially now that UCLA is willing to pay its coaches and assistants. Only Lane Kiffen is that big a douche.

Haha, that's what I figure but media members around here are convinced he'd consider it.

Gruden's not going to UT

Also, Jeff Fischer is not going to Auburn

This is all so much fanboy message board nonsense

No, Jeff Fisher is not going to Auburn. I believe Jimbo Fisher is still a possibility though. It will be one of Jimbo, Petrino, Malzahn, Patterson, or Peterson.....

Someone tweeted Al Golden to UT

Saw that. I've never heard of him, but he doesn't sound terribly reputable.

I definitely hope he isn't right. Regardless of whether Gruden is a legit possibility or not, I have no desire to see us hire Golden. Might as well have kept Dooley.

Al Golden who took a team kicked out of the Big East for being terrible (back when the Big East was down to like 5 teams) and turned them into a winning program (who would in turn be re-invited to the Big East) isn't good enough for you. I know he's not an NFL or NCAA coach who would never consider going to Tennessee, but he has an impressive resume.

Now let dew out of the box Hosak.

His 8 wins in 2010:

Villanova - 1AA

Cent Michigan - 3-9

UConn - 8-5

Army - 7-6

Bowling Green - 2-10

Buffalo - 2-10

Akron - 1-11

Kent St - 5-7

Temple was a complete joke before he got there I understand, but that's not a ringing resume of wins. I would hope a coach could manage a winning record with that pitiful a schedule in his 5th year on the job - it shows more that he's competent rather than that he's a really good coach. His 2009 wasn't any better - he had 9 wins, but only 1 (Navy) was over a team with a winning record. Otherwise it was 4 5-win teams and the rest were 1-2 win teams. If Golden's the best we can do, we might as well have kept Dooley.

And I still don't see how I'm being unreasonable. I'm noting that a lot of people think Gruden is in play and, because of that, I don't completely rule him out but doubt he's actually in the running. Other than him, I have 2 high profile coaches (Jimbo/Mora) who are only on my list because they've been directly linked to UT and 2 non-high profile coaches (Briles/Patterson) on my list of hopefuls. If it makes you feel better, I'd be perfectly happy with guys like Charlie Strong and Tommy Tuberville as well.

I'm serious. It was Luther Campbell. He's a Miami alum as well as an alum of 2 Live Crew.

You'd settle for Charlie Strong?

Hard to believe nobody else has picked up on it. He has been rumored for a while as being someone Hart was interested in, though.

I was higher on him before Louisville sputtered of late, but I liked what I saw while he was DC at Florida and I think he's done a pretty good job of recruiting to Louisville. The development of Bridgewater is pretty encouraging too. I'd prefer Art Briles and Gary Patterson to him, but I'd be pretty happy with Strong.

I wouldn't really call it "settling," though - he was on the top of my list of non-pipedreams a couple weeks ago. I like Strong as a HC a lot.

Pretty sure it was a joke.

Or not

"@SIPeteThamel: Just spoke to Charlie Strong. He's angry. He says he did not interview at Auburn and has not spoken to them. "It's not true.""

Yikes:

Kyle Tucker ‏ @ KyleTucker_CJ

Per a source inside UK athletics, Butch Jones, Sonny Dykes and Mark Stoops have all said "no thanks" to Kentucky.

Kyle Tucker ‏ @ KyleTucker_CJ

Source on UK football search: "All the agents are telling their coaches it's a dead-end job and if they're an up-and-comer, don't touch it."

Kyle had bad info on Stoops I guess

I wouldve preferred Petrino but they had no shot at him. Stoops looks solid and hopefully can raid FSUs current staff. Hes been a successful recruiter and has a national web. Also rumors of redoing all of their facilities. Much more excited about this hire than Brooks or Phillips.

2 Live Crew. Me So Horny. The guy got arrested for singing a song. It was like the highlight of Kurt Loder's career, but I don't think luke is breaking any CFB news.

Todd Graham. Twice.

Damn, how the hell did I forget him?

Mysteriously, no current head coach ever interviews or is interested in another job until the day they get the new position.

Monte out.

If there's one kid that would take joy in firing his father, I assume it's Laney.

I doubt he even bothered to tell him. Probably sent him a text.
