Per a source inside UK athletics, Butch Jones, Sonny Dykes and Mark Stoops have all said "no thanks" to Kentucky.

Oh... this is real. RT @WACSports Grand Canyon University joins the Western Athletic Conference effective July 1, 2013

Seriously, what the hell is going on here? I don't really like the way that college sports are going. For those that are unaware, Grand Canyon Whatever is currently a D2 program that plan to transition to D1 (obviously), but the weird part is that they are a for-profit university. The days of playing a crap opponent and saying that you played "University of Phoenix" may not be as far-fetched as initially thought.

Random rumblings at Mack Brown retiring after the Kansas St game. I really want to see this job on the open market very soon.

NO! He needs to stay for at least another 5-10 years.

What candidates are out there that you'd prefer? Would Muschamp come back?

Would they try and get Kelly? Would he see going to Texas as a jump up over Oregon? Or do you think he'd only look to move for an NFL job, if he even wants to move?

Gary Patterson is the most logical choice. They missed out big time on Urban Meyer due to timing and regret it so I think they would throw out a huge number to see if there are any nibbles from him still. Not sure on his contract language, but if anyone has an out clause its him. Outside of that Chris Peterson's name always comes up.

Personally I could see them going into the $6-7 million range to get who they want.

Would be interest in Kelly but he might have some baggage too. Still the higher up's probably will have to have some balls to force him out/retire. I doubt it happens this year but hoping.

Agree....SbB is the only one reporting this. Everyone else references SbB. It's garbage that is attracting hits to his website.

Petrino is likely going to get an interview for the AU position. Gary Patterson evidently is gaining some traction also. Kirby Smart is falling...may not interview. Per 247 staff, the names still in play are Petrino, Patterson, Malzahn, and Fisher.

Rumors are going around big that Gruden will be announced as Tennessee's coach Friday. I still don't fully buy it, but rumors are that we're willing and able to go to $10+ million for Gruden and his staff and Jimmy Haslam may even toss in a small slice of ownership in the Browns. He's also likely to get total football operations control ala Saban at Bama.

The media is still completely on the "Gruden is a longshot at best but likely out" side, but apparently there are two different stories being told - the AD is saying he's out while the boosters are saying it's basically a done deal.

My first instinct is to think this is all bunk, but there's a strange silence around the coaching search and even semi-prominent guys like Jerry Punch (who has plenty of contacts around college football) are saying no coach anywhere has had any contact from UT. Punch even said he thinks the deal is already done, though it's simply an educated guess. Either Dave Hart is moving incredibly slowly or he's already got a deal in place and only the currently unemployed guys (Gruden/Petrino/Davis) make any sense if that's the case.

Just read on Gruden's wiki that he was a grad assistant for two years at Tenn and his wife is a Tennessee grad and Tenn is her home state. So I guess it wouldn't be completely out of the blue.

Yeah, this whole Gruden saga started when Fulmer was fired. People first started clinging to the idea that because of what you pointed out, plus that his in-laws still live around and he owns land in Knoxville, he might have enough ties to seriously consider us.

Jason LaCanfora and Chris Mortensen have both said that if Gruden does coach in college, the only place he'd consider would be UT. My skepticism with the whole Gruden thing is that he'd actually choose coaching college over the NFL, though.

Agreed, especially because there are going to be 6 +/- NFL jobs open up in the offseason likely in big markets/well known teams/attractive areas and teams (Philly, Dallas, San Diego, Jets) he could also choose to got to a team with a top 2 pick (Carolina and Kansas City) if he really wants to get in on the ground floor with a team and build that way.

He also seems to enjoy, or at least more into, the NFL game more as evidence my his MNF work and other stuff he does for ESPN on SC during draft time. With all the work and analysis he does with QB's I would find it interesting to see him end up in Carolina with Cam.
