Auburn will have an undefeated season, then fire Malzahn after an atrocious season and hire one of his assistants in the span of 5 years.

AU won in spite of Chizik, not because of him in 2010. Chizik was initially opposed to offering Cam Newton a scholarship and was talked into doing so by Malzahn. All of the seniors on that team were recruited by Tubberville. Malzahn took a 500k pay cut to leave AU and become the head coach at Arkansas State largely because Chizik began heavily meddling in Malzahn's offense in 2011.

I'm ok with Malzahn becoming the head coach. I want to see who is hired as the DC and whether AU is going to be able to hold onto all of the highly touted defensive recruits that have committed.

I think it's a great hire, reminiscent of Chip Kelly being hired to replace Belotti at Oregon.

Hazell to Purdue official. Pete Thamel reporting Steve Addazio to BC (so McMurphy missed the boat there I guess).

Where are you seeing Hazell is official?

edit: the only 'official' claim I've seen is from the Hammer & Rails blog which is a nutjob that filmed himself crying after Purdue lost a game last year and posted it to the web.

You just took a 5-loss team to the Rose Bowl. Why are you leaving? I don't understand. Maybe he doesn't like how watered down the big x is getting? Maybe he doesn't want to travel to NJ and DC for conf games? Maybe he wants to play 2 sun belt teams and an fcs school and be commended for a tough schedule. I don't get it.

Troll post.

I'm not sure where I saw it originally as done, but FootballScoop.com says it's done.

Charlie Strong to Tennessee another rumor.

Chris Low isn't saying it's done, but he's making it sound like it's all but done. He's saying it'll be announced tomorrow and will be worth $3.75 million. Also rumors that the offensive staff will remain largely the same.

I like this hire. It's not a big, flashy hire but Strong's a good coach who will bring in a really good staff. If he keeps Jay Graham, Sam Pittman and Jim Chaney, all the better.

$4M > $2.5M

Sure, but there is a much stronger chance that he loses in the SEC, especially since Ark isn't one of the top recruiting draws and I don't think BB's recruiting skills have been all that special.

I don't know. I'm sure it was the money but looking at the long term it seems like a lateral, high risk move to me.

Maybe he just doesn't like it here anymore.

I'm hearing rumors that Alvarez might coach the Rose Bowl

Yeah, how well did BB actually recruit? The Wisconsin brand recruits lineman and running backs by itself practically. Getting Russell Wilson was great but did he facilitate that or was the opportunity just right for Wilson?

GBI reporting that Hazell has told his players he's NOT leaving for Purdue. We're offering him a $2M ish raise supposedly so I'd say someone else is bidding. I can't imagine Kent St is going to cough up $2M. I wonder if Bucky called?

I don't think he did all that well, I believe Cryst and some of the assistants he took with him last year were mostly getting past recruits and doing a lot of game planning and prepping. BB is a pretty bad in game coach too (TO management, how he had drives earlier this year where he would sub 3 QB's in and out during it, etc.) I don't think he's all that big of a loss for Wisconsin and I think finding a comparable coach won't be that hard.

I am a little fearful of Wisconsin getting a coach who is much worse, though. Big 10 schools aren't exactly wow-ing top coaching candidates these days, and I look at examples like Minnesota and Illinois and just cringe. The advantage Wisconsin has, I think, is still Barry Alvarez. He's still there, still involved, and can still apply his knowledge to the situation to identify someone to carry forth the program.

Because that's so much worse than the MAC/WAC/FCS non-conference Wisconsin has had for the last few years.

No one's commended Wisconsin for the difficulty of their schedule is the difference there.

Bingo.

Because nobody really cares about Wisconsin just like nobody really cares about Arkansas. So when he churns out 8-4 season after 8-4 season and gets pounded by Bama and LSU year after year, nobody will look at their schedule since they'll continue to be largely irrelevant nationally.

since SEC schools get to schedule 2 Division 3 schools every year, 8 wins sounds about right

Hey now, Oregon State actually ended up being good this season.

He was probably sick of the low grad rates, and wanted to go to a conference that puts the student first in student-athlete.

Impeccable timing!

As Gruden's assistant? I guess it's still a step up.
