How long until Tennessee is telling Dan Hawkins that the job is his if he wants it? Not very, right?

Three years ago when we hired Dooley, that's how it was - we were offering to any warm body. Now, however, we've not gone down Hart's list very far (most think we're still at the top of the list).

what with all the winning in the last three seasons...

It was the timing before - Lane left a week or two before signing day and pretty much every other position had been filled. Nobody wanted to leve their program in that kind of a lurch.

Now we're working on a normal schedule and there's plenty of interest.

It'd be pretty hilarious if Wisconsin went after Paul Chryst now leaving Pitt to try to hire their fourth coach in three years.

ETA: Bob Diaco might also be an interesting candidate considering how well Wisconsin's last hire of an ND defensive coordinator (Alvarez) worked out.

Chryst would go back in a hearbeat.

Leaving the big x champ before the Rose Bowl to coach a middling sec team? WTF?

$$$$$$

Still, wow.

After four-star offensive lineman Kyle Dodson picked the Buckeyes on national signing day (Michigan State also was a finalist), Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema hinted at Meyer's "illegal" recruiting tactics during his press conference.

Dodson originally had committed to Wisconsin before changing his mind.

"I can tell you this," Bielema told The Sporting News. "We at the Big Ten don’t want to be like the SEC — in any way, shape or form.

"I called Urban and we spoke about it," Bielema said. "We talked about it, and he said it would stop and it did. I’ll let our commissioner deal with anything else. That’s not who we are (in the Big Ten). We settle things among ourselves as coaches."

Bielema said Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez will speak to Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany about Meyer's methods.

@PaulMyerberg: Imagine: Chryst to UW; Pitt hires interim coach for bowl; permanent coach after. Would be 8 coaches since 12/10/10.

Malzahn to Auburn per the Twitters.

Sensible move for both. Malzahn looks pretty smart for not taking that Vandy job now and gets a better SEC gig just two years later.

Auburn will have an undefeated season, then fire Malzahn after an atrocious season and hire one of his assistants in the span of 5 years.

Looking more and more like Darrell Hazell to Purdue. I'd be happy with that hire, 6 years at Ohio St and MAC Coach of the Year in his second year. Especially considering it was at Kent State. He's relatively young, he knows the midwest, and the B1G.

You just took a 5-loss team to the Rose Bowl. Why are you leaving? I don't understand. Maybe he doesn't like how watered down the big x is getting? Maybe he doesn't want to travel to NJ and DC for conf games? Maybe he wants to play 2 sun belt teams and an fcs school and be commended for a tough schedule. I don't get it.

AU won in spite of Chizik, not because of him in 2010. Chizik was initially opposed to offering Cam Newton a scholarship and was talked into doing so by Malzahn. All of the seniors on that team were recruited by Tubberville. Malzahn took a 500k pay cut to leave AU and become the head coach at Arkansas State largely because Chizik began heavily meddling in Malzahn's offense in 2011.

I'm ok with Malzahn becoming the head coach. I want to see who is hired as the DC and whether AU is going to be able to hold onto all of the highly touted defensive recruits that have committed.

Maybe they just offered him a [expletive] of money.

He was probably sick of the low grad rates, and wanted to go to a conference that puts the student first in student-athlete.

Money, sees writing on the wall re: Urban Meyer at Ohio St, sees what Petrino did at Arkansas and thinks he can do even better. Also knows that in the SEC you can lose a game and win the national title, something the B1G can't do right now and who knows if or when they'll ever be able to do again, even with the 4-team playoff.

I am very surprised he left Wisconsin, where he could've gone 9-3 forever and been a god, but there are certainly reasons to go.
