04/25/13 - 2013 NFL DRAFT: SIX GUYS WHO MAY SNEAK INTO THE FIRST ROUND: 4. Kyle Long, OG/OT Oregon: Many have claimed his best position in pro football is guard and it may very well be true. But I had an offensive line coach tell me he really likes Long as a right tackle and was impressed with how much the former Ducks player understood about the position after just five major college starts. If that o-line coach has any say in the draft he wants Long in the second round. - Pat Kirwan, CBSSports.com

SECOND ROUND

Right. If the Bears graded Long as the best OL left, they should've taken him. Seems like that's what happened. Waiting on a guy because you think you MAYBE can get him 2 rounds later might be fine in a fantasy football draft but it's not how NFL GM's operate.

What kind of terrible logic is this? They were only allowed to draft OL?

I'm not worried the Bears reached to get an OL, I think they legitimately thought he was BPA available, which is crazy. Of course I'm no fan of consensus thought, but I'm highly skeptical here. He better win a starting jpb from day one. I was willing to give McClellin more than a year to judge thd pick, but not this one.

I like Long. Would like him a lot more if he were 22, and not 24. Would've have liked him a lot more later in the draft, though I'm guessing nobody offered enough. I actually like him at LT, but he could be a nice LG too. I would have bet a lot of money that the Bears would NOT take OL in the first. So, gotta applaud them for getting help where they've needed it most for years. I would have actually bet they wouldn't take OL at all. A lot of bodies on the line now. May the best 5 win.

Gotta applaud them? Are you kidding? A run on oline and the bears piss their pants taking a 3rd rounder with so many better players on the board.

Haha, Long was, at best, going within the next 15 picks. Third rounder?

He wouldn't have lasted because of the run on lineman, not because of his ability.

How many snaps have you watched Kyle Long play? What do you honestly know about his ability?

Pure disappointment. A [expletive] 4th rated GUARD in the first round

This guard class is better than most any we've seen recently. And Long can play tackle.

Look, there's no way to sugarcoat it. Emery has gotten cute two years in a row and not drafted the consensus BPA for any of his picks minus Jeffrey, the one high upside player. Could it be he's smarter then all the gurus and people out there??

I'm kind of with raw on this - it's not a good pick, but it's not bad either, especially given the Bears' need.

I definitely would have taken 30 and 92, considering who we took. I can't imagine he wouldn't have been there at 30, if we were dead set on him.

Yeah, I would have too. Especially with that 6th or whatever thrown in. I think the Bears probably wanted something mid-3rd. A lot of the guys they have shown interest in would been gone at 92, I think (Swope, LB, DT, Wheaton). But that extra pick could have allowed the Bears to trade up in the 3rd with their 4th and one of the 6ths or maybe just the 5th.

Does he need to have watched him to know this was a major reach and two much better players were available that would've had major roles on this team?

Seriously bad pick. The man can't draft.

Well like Boers says, it looks like he's at least LOOKING at the same roster as we are, unlike Angelo, and he's trying to nit it together through free agency so...improvement?

*coughs*

"I was wrong" is shorter to type.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THE BEARS TOOK A 58 YEAR OLD GAS STATION ATTENDANT IN THE FIRST ROUND!

Enough. It's a reach and therefore a poor value pick in the 1st round, and you know it.
