Being a self proclaimed 'draft head,' I thought I would get a head start and create a thread where we can discuss the various mocks and draft positions. Once the season ends I'll throw up the official order and trades. This thread will track the discussion.

http://walterfootball.com/draft2013.php

So far I've seen the Bears mocked with a LB, DT, OL in the first round depending on the risers and fallers in the draft. I think its a must within the first 2 rounds we select an offensive lineman. Aside from that, with the impending free agency of Melton and Okoye plus the $8 million option year kicking in with Charles Tillman we're going to have some big decisions being made.

As for the #1 pick, it looks like it'll go down between JAC and KC with Geno Smith and Matt Barkley being the first two selections.

DE/G/S in the first 3 rounds for the Titans. Not bad, though Dallas Thomas seems really high in the 2nd round. If he leaves early (which I think he will if we make a coaching change), I think JaWaun James will be the first Tennessee lineman taken.

Not extremely familiar with Bjoern Werner, though I know he's been really good at FSU.

Dallas Thomas is a Senior. Werner is a high motor, tenacious edge rusher. I think he's a little overrated, but may be one of the safer picks in a draft full of freak pass rushers.

If those are the positions the Titans need, they are in luck. Probably my 3 favorite positions in the draft as far as potential elite players and depth.

Yeah, when I said "he" I was referring to JaWaun James, a junior. That wasn't written well, though.

The biggest needs for the Titans are a pass-rushing playmaker (either at DE or LB) and an interior lineman to replace one of Hutchinson/Velasco/Harris. The pass rusher is probably the bigger need, considering we can't sack anybody.

Walter keeps mocking Keenan Allen to the Rams. Anyone have good info on him?

Doesn't have the elite level potential (ala AJ Green, Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson of recent years), but is pretty good. He has good size (6-2, 215 ish) with ability to get bigger/stronger. He's a pretty good route runner for his size aka runs like a smaller guy. He uses his body well enough to shield defenders and be an outside WR. He's good enough out of his breaks to play in the slot. Not great straight line speed, and actually appears to be better running crossing routes in the middle of the field. Not afraid of contact. Good after the catch. I think he's a "rich man's" Michael Crabtree.

Yeah Dallas Thomas is one of my ideal picks for the Bears. I really like DJ Fluker too. Both guys are potential starters at LT or LG. At this point, the Bears almost have to go OL or TE first. Gotta get Jay more help. I'd rather not draft a TE that early but it is an option. DT looks good, as Collins has been pretty good in limited duty. I'm thinking I want another WR somewhere though too. Hester is bad but Bennett has been nowhere to be found either. I think a slot WR would be pretty nice. Gotta get Jay as much help as possible.

I wouldn't be surprised if they release both Bennett and Kellen Davis to free up cap space. I think both are underachieving. Is there a TE outside of Eifert at profiles as a first round pick? I don't think Eifert is much of a blocker....

No. No other 1st round TEs. I like Zach Ertz (Stanford) and Joseph Fauria (UCLA), but with the Bears not having a 3rd rounder, and those guys being 3rd round talents IMO, the Bears would have to take one late 2nd. Chris Gragg of Arkansas is intriguing. If Levine Toiolo of Stanford and Jordan Reed of Florida leave school early (both should stay in) they are also intriguing.

Eifert is a much improved blocker. Not comfortable picking a TE that early though. Just seems like a wasted pick when the above guys are 6'6" and 6'7" and could be had later. Plus, the Bears just picked a TE. He has played solidly at FB, but the Bears could always go out and get another FB or let Rodriguez do a little of both. Also the FA class for TE is pretty strong. I'd even take Jermichael Finley if/when the Packers cut him loose.

Don't think the Bears will release Bennett. They will need to clear some space, but I'd imagine guys like Tillman and Peppers will restructure. And Bennett doesn't make much. Neither does Davis, but he's worthless.

Fauria in the 3rd round seems like an over-draft.

I like Ertz and Toiolo a lot - moreso than Eifert when you consider where they'll be drafted comparatively speaking.

Barrett Jones seems to keep dropping in these latest mocks. I've seen him go early 2nd round in a few of them.

I'd take him over Dallas Thomas.

Bears mocked Jonathan Cooper in the first round with the USC CB in the second round.

Big Jonathan Cooper fan. Not sure that's great value in the 1st though, especially if Jones, Thomas, and Fluker are still on the board in the 2nd.

Not a big fan of Nickell Robey. He's listed at 5'8" so he's probably closer to 5'7".

I like Cooper but there were some other guys who they should have taken instead (Dallas Thomas or Barrett Jones). An interesting guy I like is OT Brennan Williams who Walter had in the 3rd round. He probably was a late first rounder/high second rounder before he hurt himself. Would be a great pick up with the Bears second rounder (also like Ertz who went one pick after him).

Also, I noticed he had Robert Woods slipping to the second round, that seems too low. Especially considering a lot of the shine is off him because of injury and he should heal up with rest.

Yeah, if that's the board, I'm looking to trade to the top of the 2nd to someone wanting a QB. If staying, I'm taking Thomas and Ertz.

Well Okoye was released so perhaps The Bears go DT in the first two rounds if one falls to them.

Okoye couldn't get on the field because of the depth at DT.

I hope not since they already have a strong rotation with Paea, Melton and Collins with Toeina if necessary. The suggestion that the Bears need a DT is built around an assumption that they lose Melton to free agency.

Looking at the Bears oline situation for next year, how many starters do you look to bring in? Carimi is the only one guaranteed a spot and I'm unsure if you keep Garza and look to resign Louis.

I'd re-sign Louis but there's no guarantee he'd be ready for the start of the season.

I hope they can replace Garza because he's not a good center.
