Eiffert might be good value there but I feel like the Bears have bigger fish to fry.

Wouldn't mind Fisher there. Or Cooper/Thomas at G. Hell, Keenan Allen would probably make more of an impact to the passing game.

Posted
Walter has his updated mock draft up, first time I've seen Eifert actually be picked by the Bears.

G Larry Warfield in the 2nd round.

I'm fine with Eifert in the 1st assuming that Bears sign 2 OLs in FA. Then Warfield/Carimi. I'll take those 4 and whoever the 5th guy is for next year. It would be tough to completely overhaul the OL in a single offseason.

At this point, I think they need look at Ogletree at ILB in the 1st and look OL with either Thomas, Fluker, Aboushi, or Warford in the 2nd. Maybe grab Dion Sims in the 4th as I try and not get sucked into the I won't draft a TE from Mich St. b/c of Davis temptation.

I've played out this scenario a few times. I'd take Thomas or Fluker in the 1st because of the desperate need for OL, but there's a decent chance one will be there when the Bears pick in the 2nd. And even better chance guys like Warford (who I like a lot) and Aboushi would be there. Ogletree though, looks like a SLB to me, at least early in his career. I guess Briggs could call the D, or you could bring back Roach at MLB for a year or two though.

And despite the obvious Mich ST. comparison, Sims seems an awful lot like Kellen Davis. Both huge monsters known more for blocking coming out of college. Sims may have a better resume in the passing game, but I agree, it scares me too. There's a couple small school TEs that are interesting in the mid rounds, but I don't know that the Bears can wait that long to get a legit starter.

I disagree with you on Ogletree as far as the Sam and Mike, and I dont have to explain to you the need of the Mike to drop back into coverage. It plays into Ogletree perfectly as far as him being the most athletic LB in the draft being a former safety like Urlacher coming out of UNM.

There are several good UFA TEs as well. I think they need Long via FA get Worford in the 2nd lock up two new starters Webb, Carimi, etc for RT. Lewis is their best current OL by far with Garza serviceable at C.

Id start Ogletree at MLB next to Urlacher and Briggs, to ease him into the position better.

Ogletree would be perfect for the pass coverage part of the D. Worry about him at the POA.

Reports have his pad levels too high at POA but they also say he is not shy at sticking his nose in there.

Do you think there's a chance Otten falls to the 4th rd?

As of now, yes. But he has potential to be a combine stud, and boost his stock.

I'm hoping he's there in the 4th, if not, I think Kelce out of Cincy is a sleeper in teh 5th.

Walterfootball's mock today has the Bears taking Ogletree. It's being done live, and they haven't gotten to the 2nd round pick yet.

It's sad to see the Brian Urlacher era come to an end. Urlacher will be a free agent after this season, but he was playing poorly anyway. The Bears will have to find a replacement this offseason - perhaps in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. They'll probably be interested in Alec Ogletree, who has been tremendous for Georgia this season. Ogletree is arguably the top prospect available.

Also someone on reddit did a mock using a model created from player ratings from cbssports.com. Has the Bears with Eric Fisher in the first, and Khaseem Greene in the 2nd.

I think LT is a spot where the Bears need to pay for a player. I don't know if they can afford to draft a project in the 20s and expect it to cure all the OL woes.

I really like the thought of Ogletree then an OG in the 2nd. Overpay for Long, Albert or Clady.

Yeah, the mocks don't mean much until we get the draft order set, but I'm liking the Ogletree + Long plan.

I agree completely.

2nd round they had us taking DJ Fluker, OT Alabama.

Is it me or did they not have Jake Matthews in that mock?

Bears picking at 19 are getting awful close to Chance Warmack.

Maybe they're uncertain that he's leaving school early?

Ogletree and Fluker would be wonderful.

No complaints there. Gotta go LB/TE/OL in the top 2 rounds

Yeah I'd love to have a LT, LG, TE, LB, and CB before the second day of the draft is over (includes FAs). TE and LT could be the most signable based on availability.

Actually no 3rd so 4 of 5 would be nice.

WR Keenan Allen (Cal), DT Sheldon Richardson (Mizzou) and injured RB Marcus Lattimore (South Carolina) have turned pro. Lattimore looks very interesting if he falls to the 5th or 6th round.

Ohio State's DT Johnathan Hankins gone too. Seen him mocked to Carolina on WalterFootball for over a month now.

Add Tennessee's Tyler Bray, Justin Hunter and Cordarelle Patterson to the list of early departures. Tennessee's offense is going to suck next year.

Alabama ILB CJ Mosley, UCLA OLB Anthony Barr and Notre Dame DT Louis Nix have all indicated they'll return for next season.

Man, that win over the Jets sucked. Now there's a good chance we finish 6-10 and out of the top 10. Prior to the Jets game I was having hopes of the Titans in the top 5.

Fans are such idiots sometimes. The vast majority of Tennessee fans opinions that I've heard centered around hope that Bray/CP/Hunter would declare (citing bad attitudes with all three - and the ever-logical "we've got a new coach so it's time to get some new faces on the field).

That said, while our offense is going to suck, it has a chance to not suck as much as most people think. Nathan Peterman is a good fit for Butch's offense (Butch recruited him hard to Cincinnati) and with Ja'Waun James and Zac Fulton both returning, we'll have all but one starter from one of the best OLs in the nation returning. Marlin Lane and Raijon Neal are also solid RBs and there's still a real chance that we get Derrick Green, one of the better RB recruits in the nation.

Dooley also did a good job of adding WR/TE talent the past couple years with guys like Pig Howard, Jason Croom, Brendan Downs, Vincent Dallas, Drae Bowles. It's going to be a young offense, but it does have some upside if Butch and his staff can make it work.
